Random Thoughts.....What Are You Thinking?

I know my opinion isn't shared by all, but what I'd like to see is a ground-up rebuild of the underlying engine, porting the existing game mostly intact. That would let them fix issues like the registration and installation processes, and allow the game to handle more stuff graphically.

EDIT: FFXI with a streamlined installation and login would immediately attract more people. Fix a few of the things that Windower and its add-ons address and it would be enough to make a really enjoyable experience without having to jump through hoops. I think that more than anything is why FFXI didn't take off as much as it could have.

The login process has prevented me from taking advantage of the return home campaigns in the past.

Despite that in its early days it was quite popular.

I don't feel like the login makes or breaks some valuable amount of individual/new players, but it is an extremely annoying process.

But the fact that sometimes, some some unknown reason the game is literally unplayable on windows 10 is ridiculous. Instacrash without windower. My pc before this one had that issue, it was actually impossible to play vanilla. I still don't know why.

I think it sours the taste for a lot of people right out of the gate, which is why they don't give it much of a shot. Even I sometimes have a hard time bringing myself to get through the minutes-long process to get between booting up POLV to finally zoning into Vana'diel if it's only going to be for a couple of minutes.

My unjustifiably critical friend is finally giving it a shot. But his first impression of just the installation process has already given him all the fuel he needs to tell me how awful and antiquated this game is. He hasn't even made a character yet and everything from SE's shitty promo video to unzipping the files has given him a lot to whine about.

The login process has once or twice made me consider canceling one of my accounts. Nothing like crashing or d/cing and having to log in 3 accounts again.

When the net drops out for 5 seconds but every instance crashes. The irritation can't be described in mere words.

Ugh I despise that, it doesn't even let you relog in it just crashes. I'm sure its a windower thing but yeah

Its not like I suddenly remembered the login process, said EEEE and ran away.

I tried to log in, really I did. They have changed the login process since I last played to boot. NOT for the better.

Its like how many times do I have to enter which password? So many tries, so many fails.

Ever log into XIV? Why can't it work like that? (PS players have it even easier.)

Ive been playing the GBC Zelda games, age and seasons.

While they are surely none near "small", some points seems that massively bothersome that even is burning me down.

At first I thought age would be better than season because... hey, messing with time is more fun than messing with temperature, weather, etc.

Turns out that season seems more balanced in terms of gameplay and fun while ages is just some pile of ***at some point. For example, Rolling Ridge is so messed, having to deal with two different cities at same place with barely any visible difference. At some point is just trying to interact with every NPC hoping they can give you the dialog to unlock the dungeon because unless you write down all coordinates (xyz plus time) you surely gonna forget said NPC. And walking through then requires many time travels and shitty filler dungeons in between.

Overly excessive for example going to Zoras village, in a short space of 5 areas, having to do three time travels plus one dive in the water.

Terrible. Im about to just opening the damn guide and screw this game. Let me move on to the N64 era

I wonder how much money Square-Enix has potentially lost just due to people not wanting to deal with their convoluted account creation and login processes. Sure, the login process has been much improved in FFXIV, but new users still complain about the account setup.

Not a meaningful amount, but some for sure.

If you want to play something you'll put up with a lot of *** to get there, I don't think (m)any would fire it up and go *** this before getting in playing for 20 minutes and saying *** this.

Sure, but never underestimate the power of laziness. There have been many times over the years where I've considering playing FFXI, but the thought of having to go through the annoying login process has tipped the balance in favor of me doing something else. I keep a consistent sub so they haven't lost any money on me, but I wouldn't doubt that there are others who don't renew because there are other games that provide instant gratification.

Playing the devil's advocate, the fact that games like FFXI and GTA Online still thrive despite the mere act of logging in being a chore suggests that the gameplay is probably pretty good if people are willing to frequently jump through hoops just to get to it.

FFXI must be a good game if people are willing to go through that many hoops just to play it lol

I still tell people to view the account setup as their first, and one of the more difficult, quests in the game.

Impressive because dude used to *** like once every 10 minutes given how hundreds of movies he did. Also, just with gorgeous girls.

He did seem like some crazy weird guy in some of those movies though. I watched a lot of them, and i they were quite good, at least for my pre-teens/teens myself. All those movies reeked of 90's, which is one magic decade for me.
