big companies have money and a hand full or single key figures (the auhtorities) can often be bought. a big mass of ppl can't be as easily bought, which is why it's better if individuals see their money also as a vote.

different topic: don't the the new odyssey, particularly the nyame set, open up possibilities for melee mages? SMN and GEO are still kind of handicapped due to maintaining geo bubbles and avatars but why shouldn't it work for BLM and SCH?

some still complain about BLM beeing useless, has anyone given melee BLM a shot?

I love how in 2021 everyone is guilty the moment they are accused of something. Muh twitter jury, none of these allegations have been proven at all btw. If these developers did bad things, it's for the legal system to take care of it anyway.

If George Lucas was accused of killing someone while making Star Wars would you never watch star wars again? I think some are very much just using their fanboy pants about this whole blizzard situation, because I have zero doubt if this was happening to the developers of their fav game they would have a very different view of it.

I've never been much of a Blizzard fan personally, however they did used to make good games and did respect their audience in the past. I think the company has gone down the drain over the past 5-6 years due to bad management so the blizzard logo doesn't have the seal of quality it used to. If the remaster is good I'll probably buy it.

i'm not familiar with this case but i agree, if there are accusations like sexual harassment let the legal system do it's thing. however there are cases where companies do perfectly legal things that the individual consumer isn't ok with and in those cases it's perfectly reasonable to take your money elsewhere.

apparently blizzard didn't deliver in the last couple of years. the last thing i've heard was the warcraft remake which wasn't, from what i've heard, exactly celebrated by the audience. befor that the blizzcon show where they announced diabolo for mobile...

problem is ppl only see the company logo and link the good memories they've had in the past with products of that company to that logo, which raises certain expectations, even when the ppl who developed those products have left the company long ago.

Have you actually read the complaints? many of them are nonsense and completely overblown and even then they are still just allegations.

I read one where they were complaining because a male developer was discussing womens bodies in front of a woman, that's his job as a designer of characters. Another was "ra*e jokes" and I'm sorry but near everyone does those at one point or another, there is one in this thread on the last page.

This is the real issue Blizzard have and why they have lost all their support, they started putting out trash games and updates and disrespecting their fanbase.

You can say a lot about Square Enix but they at least try to respect their fans, didn't they put on a virtual fanfest for 14 because they had to cancel the in-person one 6 months ago? They at least put the effort in.

Blizzard just canceled it outright.

In order for us to blame Millenials, they'd have to do something on purpose rather than just whatever they wanted in that 6 minute window.

i think i've mentioned it befor, i fail to see the appeal of remakes. sure, low effort money for the company and mostalgia for the customer but lets be honest, a remake isn't going to turn back time.

at least release the remake with a significant addon, improve the game mechanics in a way which you couldn't because of limitations of the technology from back then.

Remakes and reboots (sometimes sequels/prequels) have a prebaked in customer base, guaranteed sales. low risk.

Now if you're asking why the cusomters like them, well, tl:dr chemistry.

Sometimes it's neat to see a new take on stuff. The same story but told from a different person with their flair.

Depends a lot where youre regarding time of original release.

For example i was away (aka with FFXI) during game cube and wii/wii U era so the Zelda Twilight Princess and windwaker are basically not accessible to me as there is really no point buying those two platforms just to play them. You can also add to the list the 3DS zelda games, including the N64 remakes. Though anything N64 and below should be easily emulated.

The alternative is to wait the remake to switch, what most likely wont happen this year. At least they released Skyward Sword recently.

I just wish i could play windwaker before phantom menace and spirit tracks. And to think i gave all my wii and 3ds to my sister, that lives in another state…

Being inexpensive to make, remasters are a good way for a company to test the waters to see whether a franchise is worth bringing back. Remakes are a bit more work, but are a good middle-ground to potentially bring in new customers altogether. Reboots only work if the idea was good but the execution was lacking. If the execution worked really well, reboots typically fail.

As much as I appreciate new ideas, I'll be the first to admit that I don't mind when a company brings back a game I like with better graphics and some QOL issues solved.

as i mentioned i get the easy cash argument and i also acknowledge the nostalgia aspect.
i still haven't seen a remake that interested me enough to buy it. i either played the original and liked/disliked that one or i never had interest in the firstplace.
i'm old enough to see past pretty graphics, if you take that away you get a story that you already know and gampelay that you played to exhaustion (if it was good).

diabolo 2 in particular is, past a few hours of the first play through, just a slot machine simulator. the only things they could improve on is to prevent exploits and botting in closed battlenet and better netcode for PVP. afaik the underlying game is the very same it was 2 decades ago so i'll be a prohpet today, they'll not.

The best thing about remakes, when they're done well, is the fully revamped take on the music.

The best remake I've played so far is the Pokemon Soulsilver remake on the DS. It literally is Gold/Silver 100% remade, music turned up to 11, updated to DS level Pokemon graphics/colors, with the updates to Pokemon's battle system and moveset list brought along for the ride.

In my experience, most remakes are really bad. Especially if the studio is run by different people or a different studio is taking over the project. They either change it just enough to ruin it, or change it so radically that all it's really carrying is the name. /glares at Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals.

Remasters are usually just the same exact game, just dolled up. They can be nice, because they give QoL improvements or fix bugs that made certain features inaccessible the first time around. Other than that, they're a waste of money.

Best remaster I've gotten is Dark Souls Remastered. Specifically the Switch edition, because it's portable *** Dark Souls lol.

As far as emulation goes, it's come a long way. My laptop from 2013 is capable of emulating Gamecube games, so I imagine if I want to on my desktop, I can probably emulate PS2/Xbox as well, if there's emulation for those out there. I don't have as much nostalgia that I'm missing from that gen, as I still have those consoles, and they still function 100%. (Well, my PS2 is borked, but all the PS RPGs that I really care about were from PS1 anyway).

Last time I emulated Gamecube, I was emulating Japanese Path of Radiance so I could play Maniac Mode. The hardest thing about it was that I couldn't read Japanese, so I had to turn on my actual Gamecube and look at the menus in English and then back to the menus, as all of the menu options are in the same position, at least lol.
