I never watched GoT. Never got into it.
We will always wonder what could have been if HBO had just waited to let GRRM finish his books before even greenlighting the show. The cast might have been different, but I would have been willing to wait an extra decade for a better show. Giving the writers that much creative freedom clearly bit them in the ***.
Let's be completely honest though, Game of Thrones would have never been popular in the first place if it wasn't for all of the nudity/sex scenes. That's what trapped people into the show in the first place.

What... the nudity and sex scenes were ruining the first few seasons for me. That was not a reason I picked it up at all. The books are just as graphic though so its not like they added that ***in for just the show.
The director/producers/HBO had the option to remove those scenes, but kept them in anyway.
Then again, my viewpoint/opinion is based on an outsider's view.
The show actually added a lot of sexual violence which was just weird (not in the books at all) and upset fans, as well as the cast, quite a bit. It hasn't been a good show, and it doesn't look like its going to end well.
