I don't see how or why, or why you'd be with someone who thinks that way.

The classic "what's yours is mine and what's mine is mine" joke is ridiculous. The problem is so many people accept it as factual because of their physical attraction to someone trumping every other aspect of their relationship.

This conversation reminds me of the days when I had a loveline on a forum I used to go to.. <.<

If you truly expect a relationship where they're sensitive to your needs and whims but you don't need to be receptive to theirs and you legitimately can't understand why that's a problem, you don't need a romantic relationship, you need a professional relationship with a psychologist.

I'm not saying that to be flippant, funny, or insulting. I'm saying that you've probably got an (undiagnosed?) Autistic Spectrum or Personality disorder going on if your ability to work with social reciprocity is so damaged.

It's a myth that autistic people are insensitive or can't feel empathy.

I do feel things for others, sometimes more than the person affected too. It's just difficulty in picking it up if not told outright. And even stronger difficulty with how to deal with it.

It's not about not being able to feel, it's about recognizing why you should. Or even just having it frustrate you to the point where you just shut down. Trust me. I'm very clear on the subject.

It's called a spectrum disorder for a reason. Very few presentations are exactly alike.

Okay. I was not pointedly aware, no. But it seems consistent and I'll try to keep it in mind when we have these interactions as you and I sometimes do where our points don't quite seem to get made to each other.

Not sure how the changes anything I'm saying, though, as I never said anything about his inability to feel. I said he may not be receptive/understanding of why he needs to be and I theorized he may have an undiagnosed personality disorder or be somewhere on the autistic spectrum. "Being autistic" covers a very, very wide range of symptoms, as I'm sure you know well. And may not even apply. As I said, I was theorizing an either/or based on his perceived problem with social reciprocity.

Edit: Also, I'm a big advocate for psychological treatment and de-stigmatization. I don't recommend him to treatment to be insulting the way some people around here do on occasion. I do it for the same reason I'd tell someone with uncontrolled blood sugar to go to a doctor. For the improvement of quality and longevity of life.

how would you even get to this point? if you love someone what's yours is theirs, and theirs is yours. if you really love them you wouldn't want to go somewhere they weren't going with you. sure you need space some times, but you're talking about marriage.

when you find real love none of those things matter. only being with them matters.

And Hev is right, once you find the right person none of that matters. Not everyone is meant for marriage, etc.. Nothing wrong with that.
