Would you folks say Blue Mage is along the same lines of background, culture, morality, ethics, lore and general aspects of say Thief and Ninja?
Nah, BLU is all about the pursuit of power.
In D&D terms, I'd call them Chaotic Neutral. Both in terms of definition are classes of deception. Granted it doesn't play out that way through gameplay, but as noted previously, I'm going based on background, not actual in game correlation. Ninja are supposed to be obedient to superiors but not necessarily evil or outlaw.
Thieves steal for a living, so I would think they're all kleptos. :P Run around breaking the law (by stealing stuff), backstabbing, and whatnot. Not much of an honor system there. It's difficult to explain my basis here, but on a similar thought process I'm sure you can see the similarity bond between ninja and thief, not by gameplay but rather by the whole stealth, espionage, backstabber, cut-throat sense. My question is does BLU fit that aspect in some way shape or form, or are they more of a direct combat approach? BLU doesn't espionage, it rapes your brain with pure power.
But as far as comparing to Ninja and Thief, I don't see much similarity even outside the scope of gameplay. No no, that rambling got me a sort of answer I was looking for. Thief and Ninja fit together in aspects of technically being assassins. I was just wondering if it would be too outlandish to put BLU into that same sort of niche, but from a background basis it seems not to be too farfetched. I can't remember the term for getting enemy data. :S
Lakshmi.Flavin said: » Thiefs aren't assassins. Marauder would be a more fitting term, but the fact remains they kill in the most subtle and direct manner, conducive to that of an assassin. Hence why their relic armor was named so. Are we talking game terms only here?
You've got a point there. I think Thief is just a name that seems to lock them into a specific role.
Lakshmi.Flavin said: » Are we talking game terms only here? No. But try not to put too much thought into it as to limit outlook between things. I think one of the things that connects Blue Mage and Ninja, at least, is the ability to execute orders from a superior, like an assassination or something. Blue Mages are loyal to the Empress, while Ninjas are loyal to... whoever their leader is. >_____>
Well in reality thieves don't really kill. They're not really assassins as assassins are contracted to kill and thieves are there to steal. To get in and out with the loot and hopefully no trace.

Though Blue Mage is a little too vague outside of the basis for their connection to Immortals. Lakshmi.Flavin said: » Well in reality thieves don't really kill. I don't disagree with you, but thanks to the treasure hunter update, THF is no longer a TH poking stick like they once were. They have a role in being stabby once again. |
