I was almost able to take about 1.5 weeks traveling around Europe in high school but it was like $3,000 and at the time we THOUGHT my older sister was going to get married, and I was getting a class ring, learning how to drive and whatnot, so I was being nice and told my mom she could take any money she was going to put towards the trip to help my older sister get married.
Needless to say, I was pretty bummed when my sister's engagement fell apart.

We only spent $160ish on mine because I was also going to start drivers training and that was $250 and I also thought I was going to get a varsity jacket which would've been another $500ish. Anyways, oh yeah, there were some class rings that were up to $500.
And people would spend that much on them because they could and because mommy and daddy had all the money in the world to pay for it.
Seems like such a waste of money lol
I agree, especially since I stopped wearing mine a year after I graduated lol. A varsity jacket, I can see someone wearing for a few years in college, but not a class ring lol.
now that I look back at it, it is kind of a waste of money... but it's a nice remembrance thing I guess? I dunno to be honest.

They were a big ol thing when I was in high school, and I never understood it. Another status symbol in the little high school ecosystem.
I wasn't particularly inclined to get one anyway, but there was zero chance I was going to pay for it out of my own pocket, which is how it would have gone.

My high school had ones ranging from $60 to $500ish.
The only similar thing we have is the graduation hat and you only wear that like once lol
I actually kept my graduation gown, cap and tassels. lol
Doesn't sound like a typical Austrian to me, just a horrible person.

She wanted an item one day and I drove her all around town looking for it and at each place, she'd be rude as hell to employees like they all owed her or something. Maybe it was just an act to try and impress me but I doubt it, really just looked like her normal behavior towards service people.
