Looks like today will be one of those days. Was about to finish the last FATE I needed for my book and the power goes out. No storms or anything. >.>

Game Informer had a super HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE article about it that basically said something to the effect of "as long as people keep paying outrageous amounts for them, Nintendo has no reason to increase supply."

Hold the phone there Game Informer. When dicbag_97 on eBay sells an Amiibo to a Nintendo gamer for $60 how is that benefiting Nintendo? Breaking it down:

dicbag_97 buys an Amiibo for $12.95 - Nintendo makes money here.
Gamer has a budget for games of say $75 this month.
Gamer buys dicbag_97's Amiibo for $60 - Nintendo sees no money here.
Gamer can not buy anything else from Nintendo this month.

Alternatively, if they were in greater supply.
Gamer buys an Amiibo for $12.95 - Nintendo makes money.
Game also buys Mario Party 10 (or whatevs) - Nintendo makes money.

This goes for so much more than Amiibos too.

i've been saying that this entire time. Nintendo only loses money with this, i dont understand their reasoning behind limiting supply like they do. it's so *** stupid. skylanders doesnt do it, why wouldnt you emulate the super *** successful model that exists?

Because my Amiibo is rarer than yours so I win.

Or something like that.

so print limited edition variants like skylanders does, easy fix for that. people get their rare amiibos, nintendo gets their rare amiibo hype, nintendo still sells tons of normal amiibos. winwinwinwinwin

Actually, I should start looking into getting some of these things to resell them on such sites. Can never have too much money.

i actually want to know how much profit skylanders has made after production costs, packaging, shipping, marketing, etc.. i bet even considering all that it's a scary amount of money. im absolutely shocked that pokemon has yet to tap this market

And then there is Nintendo.

The problem is, they're not interested on the sale of the amiibos themselves.

They want to generate hype.

And to achieve that they want to starve the market.

The whole point is fuel the sale of gadgets and software which are compatible with the amiibo stuff.

Also, if I couldn't get the extras, I wouldn't buy the software...which is why I haven't. This whole Amiibo thing doesn't sound fun or exciting to me at all.

Sometimes, when people start asking "who's on <insert mechanic here?" and it happens more than once, I like to reference a horrible little video game I had as a kid, no one seems to get it.

Example:
"Who's on bombs?"
"Who's MT? I'll do bombs."
"So who's on Giants?"
"Who shot Johnny Rock?"


No one ever gets it, people are so stupid! ^^

Welp... didn't get the amiibo I wanted, even in our little shitass area it was sold out in less then 2 hours.

Guess i'll be paying some *** scalper his *** prices later.

Nothing gets me hyped for buying something like knowing it won't be in stock and that I would have to pay 5x retail to get it.

Actually what would get me hyped would be knowing I could get them all without going bankrupt and dealing with asshats on eBay. I would have so many more amiibos if they were just *** in stock.

The people at Nintendo don't seem very intelligent these days

They really aren't, it's neat how they did the amiibo thing at first, but it's slowly getting stupid the more down the road it gets.

I think that, for now, all Nintendo is trying to do is get everyone talking about them.

What if this amiibo thing a huge experiment on new business models for them?
