Making a million gil in FFXI is as easy as making $9332.28 in real life. If you imagine gil = Yen, lol
Pretty sure 1mil Gil is faaaar cheaper than that.
I'm talking earning/making it, not buying it. You can't 'buy' real life money, unless you're a prostitute of some kind, lol.

I dunno, I think everyone has done some RMT in their career.
I remember when scorpion harnesses were 15m and I was sick of moat carp and tiger fangs and spent like $25 to get it.

AJ was an inside joke for me and a few friends. I went like 1/30 on it, so when it finally dropped it was a big deal because of how long it took to get it. Always threatened to drop it and force them to farm me another.
Still had it in storage last time I logged off.

Depends on how good you are at investing, gambling, etc. and how much capital you already have.
But here's an interesting read, this class at Standford University was given $5 and 2 hours to make as much money as possible. The winning team raked in $650 is says.

Can't remember what I spent it on though; Probably crafting.
I thought about it but XI had ways of providing at different stages, enough for me to survive quite nicely.
First job to make money was harvesting red moko grass and prostituting out my teleport spells. :D

Actually, that's a legit concern. I was a crafter in both FFXI and FFX|V, and the most I ever had at one time was 1.5 mil (which I may or may not have obtained illegally). On FFX|V, I farmed and crafted for days, and the most I ever got was 400k. Maybe some of us just weren't meant for riches in MMOs.
not even gonna lie, after I'd played ffxi for around a year I was still only a lv50something blm and I couldnt afford staves or torques or anything. This was around 2006 but I had my mom go to IGE for christmas i think and get me 1 mil "DONT ASK WHAT ITS FOR" but that lasted me like 2 years lol >_____>
Life Belt farming was where it was at! That's how I got my Scorpion Harness and Hauby lol
