Squall is actually somehow less emo than Cloud, at least he rolls with it and gets over it, and doesn't steal an entire persona because he hates who he is. I mean ***son.

As far as game play goes he's outclassed by Vaan, Basch, and Ashe. And he has the slowest firing animation with a gun.

Best FF lead, right here.

Vaan couldn't outclass a group of first graders with learning impairments.

Entire hometown annihilated by his childhood hero. Best friend and the woman he has a thing for maimed (and possibly killed as far as he knows) before his eyes. Best friend murdered protecting him after they escape from being experimented on by Hojo.

His mind then breaks and he takes up the Zack persona. Sephiroth returns and his persona starts to break. Aerith see through the persona and starts chipping at it. Aerith is murdered right in front of him and he's unable to do anything. Sephiroth breaks his persona entirely and he becomes a vegetable.

Remembers who he is and is still determined to stop Sephiroth. Despite not being the hero he idealized Zack to be, he manages to win.

That should have erased ALL the baggage and awful ***that he had gone through and everything was suddenly okay. According to everyone, anyway.

There's a reason I specified game play and didn't just lump it all together.

But seriously, he doesn't contribute much at all. He shoots a few things, has an airship that's barely used at all, is suave as *** and has a semi-interesting back story of being an ex-judge and having a psychopath scientist for a dad.
