Capiche? I started off thinking about t i t s as i usually do...
Then some ppl on twitter got me thinking "has anyone invented a blow-up Jeff Goldblum sex doll?" I wonder what Jeff Goldblum would look like with t i t s? Why isn't there a ffxi mod of jeff goldblum with t i t s yet? Jetackuu said: » Just make it real/to scale and build some muscle and not be a wimp! YouTube Video Placeholder Admittedly, the Buster Sword is in a class of its own. And the Gae Bolg wouldn't have THAT much imbalance even with the bulkier head. Most of a weapon's usability comes from the utility and design. 10 years since I finished high school. God I feel old ._.;

Most of a weapon's usability comes from the utility and design. The weight of european weaponry is grossly exaggerated. Katanas tended to weigh as much or more than the standard longsword. Also, there isn't a person on the planet that could swing that Buster Sword around comfortably.
YouTube Video Placeholder It weighs 54 lbs. Basically the weight of a full set of plate mail. In the end it all comes down to fantasy weaponry. Looks cool, highly impractical.

The weight of european weaponry is grossly exaggerated. Katanas tended to weigh as much or more than the standard longsword. Katanas typically weighed between 1.5lbs to 2.8-3.5lbs, which alone is more than enough heft to cause some serious damage. European Longswords were typically lighter in comparison, and were swung far more clumsily. There was an art from to crafting proper blades, to match the weight of it's user, and the style in which they were accustomed to fighting. a 54lbs Buster Sword *could* be swung comfortably by someone who had trained to use it, but that would take almost a decade worth of physical endurance training alone, to get your muscles to a point that could even swing it, let alone use it. And I'm not just talking about bulking up either. It's going to require extreme endurance training. The kind that SOLDIER members would have gone through (aside from the Mako infusions) Interestingly enough, it would actually be harder to wield Sephiroth's Masamune than the Buster Sword. The Masamune is stupidly long, yeah. You wouldn't be able to use standard katana technique with it. Nor sheathe it.
I'm going to disagree on clumsy technique for the longsword. Clumsy technique leaves you open to getting stabbed or cut or easily blocked. Quick snap cuts for your opponents hand was far more popular than full power swings because you could keep your guard up and expend relatively little energy to perform a potentially crippling attack. That isn't to say there were some real swordsmen among the generic soldiers. Also, I never mentioned technique being clumsy, only that the swings were far more clumsy in comparison. This is due to the metal, and often times, poor weight distribution when making them, in mass amounts for upcoming wars. Long and short swords were capable of different things, and a skilled person could eviscerate you with one. Wooooooo energy!

Not even someone like this:
It's not made to be swung around, unlike a real sword. It's basically just a big lump of metal with a handle. There's no balance or anything.
It's like trying to hold a 20ft long 2x4 by the very edge of one end and keep it level.
It's just not going to happen. Sure some people may be able to hold it better than others but no one is going to be able to do it for very long. Gravity is a ***. |
