I'm on the one where it doesn't force you, I can pick those routes, but I decided to cross-learn some abilities to start off with, I realize that may require some extra grinding, but it'd be nice to have Yuna have some BLM spells and so forth, ya know?

You can grind in FF8 you just have to do it differently.

You're better off by drawing a shitload of spells, and maxing out your AP than anything, XP only hinders you (usually), that's the strange thing.
