So, I keep mostly to myself and the neighbors keep mostly to themselves. There are neighbors on three sides. There's a sweet couple with a college age son, two dogs, and a cat on one side (the only non-duplex side). The couple is ok, the dogs are my bros.
There's my duplex neighbor, a college professor, she's nice and has one dog and one cat.
The other duplex has some old lady with a tiny yippee dog on one half, and the other half is Jessica who is my age-ish with a toddler-looking kid and a husky mix dog named Shira.
Shira is silent, and I mean silent. If you walk into her yard you're going to know it's guarded by a husky when he bites you, not when you hear him. I've never heard him bark, whine, or cry, not once.
Until today! I'm bebopping around the house doing my thing, and I hear these keening cry coming from next door. I ignore it, it's probably the kid, kids cry all the time. It kept going and I realized that was not a kid. So I looked outside, and it was Shira. He was begging to go in. I was a bit alarmed because I've known this dog for about two years and have never heard a single peep out of him! So when it keeps on for a few minutes more, I decide to go over and make sure Jessica is ok.
So I go over and knock, and some older lady answers the door. Anyways, turns out it was Jessica's mom, Jessica got severely burned and has been in the hospital for four days, and Shira is just crying because he misses her.
I cannot believe one of my neighbors can go missing for four days, four whole days! and I only notice if their dog alerts me. D: Jeez, what if she'd been dead, it would have taken me four days to notice. ;;

It's ok...
me and my family have lived in the same house with the same neighbors for 15 years. (I was still a near baby when we moved in)
And I cannot tell you the name of ANY neighbor I have.
<shrug>

Don't feel too bad Liela. It's not like you're responsible for Jessica! I mean, at least you cared enough to check after four days. Some people don't EVER check on their neighbors.

Vyre here shares my sentiments on this. You shouldn't have to feel responsible for every person you come in contact with. You're an awesome person, and don't second guess that, but you're also not Wonder Woman. Accept the fact that you're a human being with a lot on her plate.
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
