If someone asks me about my day I will assume they are trying to get me to tip above 15%

Canada doesn't count hockey and maple syrup. Plus a long list of other things we don't care about.

In general if someone is working a job where they get tipped they make a special wage which is set so the tips cover the rest up to the normal pay. This is why there is sometimes restaurant drama when the cooks (who tend to call themselves chefs but are just cooks) feel they are entitled to a cut of the tips. As far as I know Starbucks workers make a "Normal" wage so you wouldn't tip them.

Starbucks is wrong and you should feel bad for going there!!!
Boycott all starbucks things now!

Tipping only helps the customer the server serves after you....
(You're already leaving when you pay your bill/tip.)
The service you get is based on the amount of the tip they got from the skinflint before you... and what you order (see below)

So I command all of you tip at 50% so I get good service from now on, thank you.

Also, always order a drink other than water. The phrase "I'll just have some water" when deciphered by the customer to server translator roughly translates to "I'm going to tip you a nickel."

If you want excellent service order booze and an appetizer.

Never bring a child to a restaurant, but if you do for christsakes order a drink and a meal for them. DO NOT bust out the sippy cup full of apple juice and the fourteen zip lock bags full of pretzels and carrots and cheerios and apple slices and gummy bears and every other thing!

Which sucks for the Starbucks workers.

Federal law states that those who earn below minimum wage but receives tips can still get minimum wage, even if the tips don't cover it.

It comes out of the owner's pocket.

So, waiters/waitresses actually make more than minimum wage. Most people just don't realize it. Forcing the restaurant owners to pay them minimum wage will just cause them to not let their customers tip (or strongly encourage the customers not to tip) and therefor lower the wages of the wait staff.

Why would restaurant owners encourage customers not to tip in this case? Simple: Owners pay FICA on the tips. So, if a wait staff earns $20 in one hour on tips, the owner has to fork over $1.53 on those tips.

I have two actually.

One was very polite and well mannered and we took him out all the time. The other had DAtT OCD (destroy all the things obsessive compulsive disorder) and we learned to get take out.

I make $10.14/hr and my work is far more difficult/involved than any McDonalds worker. According to a ex-McDonald worker I work with, anyway.

I make like, $3/hr more, but it isn't even a livable wage.
