I'm glad I notice I follow all of those five rules Nik posted, I'm actually pretty good at managing my real life money(for some reason though I always go broke in videogames...)
If anything maybe I am a bit too tight with it, my mom always tells me 'saving money is fine, but spend it sometime, what you wanna be Scrooge McDuck?!'
There are so often things I want but I never buy them cause I feel like nothing is truely a necessity other than food and taxes. *saves all the gold*
/digressed
I do the same thing. It's like hoarding, but instead of crap in your house it's money in the bank!

No sympathy here, they should consider it motivation to get a real job I take it you're not in the U.S. Jobs are scarce so it isn't as easy as "Go get a real job!" We've made it this way, though. Too many automated machines taking over people's jobs.

So you have to tip people that serve you coffee good to know that.

If you can define real jobs I'd like to see a list.

Usually don't tip at fastfood restaraunts/quick service food/drink places unless its a local shop. However, I think its pretty customary to drop w/e left over change into the tip jar and keep the paper money (unless you pay with plastic then fck them)

honestly? I wouldn't tip in Starbucks (under normal circumstances) for a regular drink.
a normal coffee shop with a waiter/waitress yea, because they stay attentively, take drink/food to your table, frequently asking if everything is ok, and/or if their service is amazing.

THose yuppies that make a venti quad shot cappuchino with vanila caramel flavoring with skim milk and sweet and 6 sweet and lows...they should tip.
It's often very low wages. Yup, so help cheer them up.
EDIT: In some countries, leaving a tip is considered an insult as the waiter interprets it as implying they need extra incentive to do their job. Cultural differences tho. News to me.

I love their coffee but damn it if I hate their political ***.
Last I checked they can make coffee without being in your face about their politics.

Fast food, never. Coffee joints (even Starbucks), yes. Local, always!
Speaking of local, I heard they opened a Maggie Moos in the DFW area! Bum bum BUM!!! Damn it, Dallas! First Chuy's now this?

I meant a university student. I usually tip them twenty per cent. Admittedly, just a few dine and dashers, but evangelicals that leave you a damn card (that is not a myth) or people who simply don't tip for whatever reason...
/shakes head
I REMEMBER!
I'll tip twenty per cent whenever we take the sweetpea with us because I hated families who let their children go ape-turds while at restaurants.

I wouldn't tip except at a restaurant (with good service) because you just don't do it over here

If you eat at a small place (like a pizza place or something) you don't tip either

I know it's not customary in Europe. Not a problem. Northern Europe at least. I felt like I was being hit up for money when I was in France and Italy all the time though! What is up with that? Do they not have a yearly salary like Northern Europe?

It's really expensive here anyway, people aren't gonna tip.

That's a little over $16/HR at the minimum! That's nice compared to $3.25/HR plus tip in the US. The last time I had a server job was in 2006/7 though, so...
/cringe
I don't think much has changed since then.
EDIT: Wait. You're not talking about pay. :/ $16 for the meal itself at a fast food joint?

I was once asked to tip at a Chinese buffet.. In the back of my mind I was like "I can tell you aren't wearing a bra. I'm going to tip you, you don't have to ask."
True story.

I don’t think anyone tips at McDonald's, but at starbucks I usually drop my coin change in the tip jar. I'm not santa so I have no desire to jingle as I walk.

I know you did, but I deleted my first remark to hide my bitterness at not being able to afford college without a loan and deciding not to do it nor have the parents or family to fund my schooling, and just start my working life at 18....so 12 years later, yes, bitter old man award, I have it. At restaurants, if I am served well, 20%, if below average, 5%. I am usually, very polite too, so if they are not, or I can't tell they are having a bad day, then guess they don't want extra tip. Tho I do know it's hard to stay happy and attentive, even if that is your job, on a bad day.

Sorry Skully-O. Didn't mean to offend. Have you considered going back to a tech school for drafting? You have plenty of experience that could be applicable for credits I would think.

I have the Tip-O-Meter too. It's starts at ten per cent though.
Yeah...Can't show any amount of tenseness. You learn to adopt the grind-your-teeth-smile, which comes in handy later in life too.

Sometimes I think of it...one day maybe. Want more stability in life before I do. Kind of a Catch-22 though.
Also, I wonder if my experience could help me get a Commision in Army Corp of Engineers. :3

True, but also find it easier to be nice to those who are nice and polite like myself, to the waiting staff. Ask them about their day and junk. So they can open up and be nice to me and in end, if they are good, they get gooder tip.

This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
