I gotta say, Quiz just seems depressing when he talks about games. Such a realist.

Just look at the decline of gaming over the past 8 years
I'm not saying there hasn't been a decline in gaming. But you always talk about it to the point of almost seeming as if gaming isn't worth it anymore. In which case I begin to wonder, why do you even game?

I ask myself that almost every day.I want to give it up,I try to give it up. But something inside me clings to that which has provided so much enjoyment and good times and good memories over the years that I cant let go of the one or two pieces per year that are worth it in case I miss out on something I'll actually enjoy. I've cut back on the crap though the last few years and thankfully this year is dry as hell for new games,so using the time to re-enjoy my old favourites and games I never got around to playing over the years

think for my next ship i'm going to go with a cruiser, I want to try something different.

Edit: wait I have cruisers now? I ... forgot :/
You have the Constitution-class, right? Yeah, it's a cruiser. If you want to try something different, escorts are more hit-and-run. Never tried a science vessel, though, so can't really say what they're like.

So it's a fear of losing that which you once enjoyed that keeps you playing. An odd yet understandable reason, I suppose.

A word of advice, though. If you continue to think of games based on your old assumption on them, you'll eventually lose your interest in gaming all together.

Whether you like it or not, gaming has changed and will continue to change and if you continue to think so pessimistically about what it is, you'll never fully enjoy even the few games you feel are worth playing each year.

At the same time,I know it has changed. And drastically. Alot of what I want to play ends up disappointing because gaming is now nothing but a business. Almost every game has to fit a certain "model" now and that tends to take away from 99% of games and make them all too generic and samey, thanks to choices enforced by the suits up top to try "reach as many sales as possible". Dead Space 3 is a good recent example. I'm definitely open to new games being good, and I do have some, albeit only a few, epic memories from this generation of gaming. In fact one game I played this year has jumped right into my "best game ever" chart, even contending for #1 spot on and off :O

Honestly whenever I play older games I find most of the same flaws people rail on new games for. If a game entertains me, either through story, gameplay, hell even if it's just fun to look at that is all that really matters to me. I can still pick it apart if called upon but I don't feel the need to do that for myself.

Part of it is you're willing to forgive older games for flaws because they're the pioneers, taking the risks. You'd figure the new games could learn to overcome some of the flaws of the past.
