o-o Once I figured out how to turn on Human without having to be online this game became awesomer. Using that knight dude made the bell gargoyle a *** joke.

The game is intended for solo play for obvious reasons, but if you need a little help then there are NPCs you can summon or if you play online even other players. The choice is yours for how you want to play. You can even go online and summon a normal player if you can get to the boss fast enough. I can usually turn human and summon a player then get to the boss door within 2 min (for silly co-op) and it's usually fast enough that no one can invade me.
It's kinda weird to me that they wouldn't put in some kinda of accept challenge feature or something. While trying to figure out how to get it to let me offline-summon I had gotten invaded 2 times and both times it was a 1 hit-kill and they looked like they had some damn nice gear, really ridiculous.
I dunno if you or the other Xbox people knew how to do it but you just have to start an xbox live party before you load your game, even if you are alone and it will let you (force you >.>)play offline as a human.

I try not to run around in human state. (I believe you can only be invaded in human form.) so that cuts most of the invasion window out. But so far I've only had one invasion and poor dude got his ***beat in. lol
Human form isn't just to fight players. There are NPCs hidden throughout the game (including DLC) that will only invade you if you are human. This works in both offline and online modes.
If you just run around as an undead forever then you'll never fight these NPCs, you'll never get their drops, and if they are involved in side quests then you'll never experience them.
It is very beneficial to play in human form if you're going to survive for awhile, but it is not recommended to play online unless you wish to PvP or if you need help.

I pretty much just do everything in undead mode until I fight the boss or something. With the exception of Kirk invasions which I just get out of the way right before I do the boss anyway.
