Only thing I don't like about the rating system is that your pics are auto sorted by rating. I'd rathe rpick the order myself, but other than that idc about the rating itself.

The rate-down feature is pretty much useless. It doesn't really convey anything. Someone who rates-down could be just in a bad mood, or not had any sex for a few months, or recently been grounded by their momma ... or maybe they don't like your avatar, or your name, or your grammar ... or maybe they didn't like the opinion someone expressed about a sensitive but unrelated topic 3 months ago ... and some people even rate-down because a couple others have already rated-down a post, and they just want to "fit in".
Like I said, because there are an infinite number of (mostly stupid) reasons someone could rate-down, it conveys nothing.
So, since it conveys nothing, and there are no concrete consequences established for excessive rate-downs here ... I'd re-iterate that it's a pointless function.
And, I'd ask, echoing the OP, why do we have the rate-down feature?

Just using him as (prime) example, there's so many reasons why he clicks the rate-down button, that the purpose of the rate-down button becomes diluted and generally pointless.
Thus, as previously asked, why not remove the rate-down feature? Removing it can not do any harm, and there's at least a chance it could do good.
Plus, there's a good chance we could help Flionheart's mental health, since there wouldn't be any more -9's to make his OCD flare up.
Seems like a no-brainer to me.

I'm going to go ahead and throw out there that the karma/rating system in general is a bad feature in my personal opinion. A report button sure, but karma/rating just seems to lead to troll/flame bait more often than it seems to do anything good. I wouldn't mind if it was removed. This is just my personal opinion though.

Could just add an option not to be able to view ratings. So the people who don't want to participate don't have to.

Also agree with that too. I mean ratings don't bother me personally, but seeing as people take them so seriously maybe it's best if they remove them, or just make rate ups available.

Kind of guilty of this, too. Even on like item comments. I just can't stand the odd numbers.
So, people that think they only get rate downs because people are stalking them or hate them or w/e... it's not always the case. Could just be the person clicking that - or + is cuckoo for cocoa puffs.

If you're going to moderate screenshots, you seriously shouldn't allow images through whose sole intents are to harm people.
2. Rate-downs. I really just don't like them. Never before have I ever seen a system on a web site that has been so negative without any single benefit. They scare people from making posts, they get under peoples' skin, and they allow people to just go on rampages and just rate everyone down. The point of the rate-ups/rate-downs is to allow people to agree or disagree, but I don't think that's proper forum etiquette if they're not obligated to describe why they disagree. I see no reason to get rid of rate-ups, but rate-downs need to go. I don't know how many times I see a comment I've made that was rated down and ask "Why did someone do that?". It doesn't help anything when people are left there wondering what they may have said wrong. I'd gladly fix my post up or perhaps rebut your argument if you had one presented, but you just hit [-], then all I know is that there's at least one person out there who disagrees with me and I can never know why. There's a reason why only a small handful of forums ever use rate-ups and rate-downs. Forums are about free speech, and writing a huge post just to exit out of the window because I think that someone, somewhere out there might disagree with me is just wrong. If you continue to allow rate-ups, then you can still distinguish between good posts and not-good posts, but rate-downs are just bad to have. As long as people are not obligated to rate up or rate down every single post, the system is broken anyway.

you do need to grow the *** up, and just a flaw in your logic:
there are plenty of people on here who don't play anymore and yet still come on here on the daily, and not just the trolls.
there's nothing "wrong" with the website in general, unless you're having technical difficulties, if you don't like how they moderate, then go QQ by yourself, in your hole. Suck on your thumb while you're at it.

The rate up and down feature in posts is HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE, i have not seen another website which has this kind of system, and having been a part of a number of different forums, usually they have rules, and usually the admins care enough to put rules in place so the people who come to visit their forums, do not get upset and harassed by other members.
Every single time i come onto this forum, and make a new thread, some smartass comes in and starts on me, Why??? They dont even know me, usually all im doing is trying to find out some information, or im trying to make a useful thread for the community so players can be read it and think, well you know what i never knew that, im glad i come to this website.
Whenever someone gets upset in this forum, and try to express their concern, they get this STOP CRYIN! GROW UP! Get a sense of humour etc etc, the list of insults goes on and on and nothing is ever done to stop this.
Personally this website has helped me a great deal, and i have contributed to the forums with useful guides which got high praise, but there is always going to be some idiot on here who turns around and says to me, YOUR A MORAN BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO SPELL! XD
Scragg, Jaerik, why exactly do you allow your forum to be filled with so much hate? Do you enjoy watching people insult each other? If this was any other forum everyone would have left by now, but because this is a website for a popular game, people come here to get help with it, not to be abused.
The fact you can turn on and off screenshots ratings, thats fine with me, people generally rate the screenshot on how good it is compared to the rest they have seen, but when it comes to posts its completely not needed at all, there is no good reason why any post should be rated up or down, its a useless feature which never helps anyone.
Some people generally get more upset then others, thats life, thats how human feelings work, no one on this website can expect someone to relax and accept everything is fine when they just been called an idiot for no reason, where is the logic?
This website is very well built, but when it comes to rules and some general order, there is NONE! And that is what is wrong with FFXIAH.com. You may find a lot more people will come here if you added some rules.

However, there are a lot of ignorant/rude/selfish idiots in these forums ... a point that I've made several times over the past months.
Just because someone makes a generalizing statement doesn't automatically mean you're one of the guilty parties. And, being a decently intelligent person, you should know that, right?
