what the ***, who said it did?

I assume the majority of people who say XI is easier now.
no, they said that the fact that you require fewer people made things easier.

No because the discussion is around NM's, not gathering the items required for said NMs. For any NM in Abyssea, 4, those jobs, are all you need.

Also, new procs in Voidwatch. Betting some of them are JA. You'll probably need 10 people to not waste time. Does that make it hard? You tell me. I'm waiting to see how it turns out.

Voidwatch seems to cater really well to you, Draylo. Hope SE doesn't crush your dreams.

We're talking about new ffxi vs old ffxi. Comparing events then to events now, yes I'm going to bring in everything abyssea needs to be efficient.

Old FFXI: almost any NM could be handled by RDM x4.

Whole events like Dynamis... well, since you won't let us count our entire proc job setup as a whole event setup, you can't use that against it.

Maybe the game is dying, I don't know because I still enjoy my time playing. I just miss the older content. How we had varied content to take part in, how you can do things with a group and not a low man or dual boxed char. I think the game needs more group oriented events that don't have atma or atmacite or steroid jesus mode etc. 8~12 people event, easy to get into like Dyna, Einherjar etc. Rewards everyone for participation like Einherjar, requires specific strategies and setups and can throw twists at you like Nyzul and Einherjar (before was completely dissected) did. Complexity of Salvage etc.

The problem is, for the smaller servers it's hard to get that many people to do things. Voidwatch sounds good because each player individually gets a reward meaning things can't be locked out.

Those servers are getting merged though. So almost every server should have an avg of 2k players during peak times. Most should have linkshells to do crap with, wouldn't be hard to set it up. Maybe have one mob that was like AV to keep player speculation alive and such lol.

Or they could ditch FFXIV, drop ps2 support, revamp the graphics for FFXI from the ground up to match FFXIV, make an expansion to the far east > get a ton of older players to come back and a surge of new players due to FFXIV dying and FFXI being advertised. Ease of leveling and more help for newer players with gil. New summons, new jobs, new hub city. Everyone happy, new content for groups and low man, using the best of old xi and new. Making older areas still relevant past the expansion, updates to content for Aht Urghan/Jeuno/COP areas. Can I dream?

I agree that there are more players with top end gear now. I do not agree that old ffxi players who had top eng gear were better. Infact all it proved was theat you had more friends willing to get you gear or happen to run a ls and have them make you a relic. I think a lot of old players quit because the old ways of getting gear for points went away. One of my old ls always made me go as a mage yet all the gear I bid was for my DDs that I NEVER got to play since End Game took up all my time. Merit parties were a joke.. I LVL sam just so I could get into them. Kings and HNM were all the same once my shell had it down it was childs play no fun at all. I actually enjoyed the ocassional wipe. It made me realize how hard the game was. I dual boxed Byakko the other day with avg gear. So the lvl increase was the reason for that not abyssea.

The game was just not very fun torward the end. Abyss brought new life.

Dropping PS2 support wouldn't really help.

A lot of the limitations are hard coded into the game BECAUSE it was developed for the PS2 rather than windows.

You're essentially asking them to recreate the entire game which would take literally years of work.

They could however add an expansion pack, though that would be tough due to the memory issue with the PS2. They'd probably have to copy zones to avoid it. Or maybe they will drop PS2 support. Dropping it would help in some aspects.

Or just make it blocked off for PS2 players, they can't take the airship or boat or what have you to go there. I guess that would conflict with items and new jobs/summons and such though.

*gasp* content that makes you use strategy, experiment, and adapt. Is this still even possible in ffxi?! Variety instead of sticking everyone in a cookie-cutter repetitive event. I think the main problems has been SE's tunnel vision. They just throw out the 'next big thing' and if people eat it up, they beat that horse into the ground, while everything else gets tossed or downplayed. Some people want lootz, others want storyline/purpose, basically some kind of interaction with the world....but all people scream now is immediate gratification instead of a sense of accomplishment. Supply and demand!

All the content you listed could be expanded...like deeper levels in salvage for new exploration, More Nyzul floors, instead of half assed mob repositioning and level increases. Anyone still kill the fomor NMs in past? Oh wait stuff that's not in the budget!

that reminds me...after all these years...where the *** is Lion?

Honestly seriously come on, who the hell owns a ps2 in 2011 and plays a MMO but doesn't have a computer? really? I mean really?

Buy a damn computer and play with the rest of us. The quality you'd need for this game is like 100 bucks, really? No?

And nothing of value was lost

I still know people who play on ps2 :/ I dunno how. Most say its because they like to sit on their bed while playing or their couch or w/e lol

"Old FFXI" endgame:
emphasis on instanced/reserved events (Dynamis, Limbus).
emphasis on highly exclusive NM appearances ("ground kings", CoP Wyrms).
emphasis on low to VERY low drop-rates on desirable items ("ground kings", Dynamis-Xarcabard, Salvage)
limited amount of endgame content relative to the server population

All of this created and supported:
lots on inter-linkshell rivalry and petty banter (trash-talking @ NM camps, linkshell forums flame wars)
gil-selling and gil-buying
botting of all types
a few large-sized endgame linkshells per server, generally featuring high-school maturity levels (cliques, rage-logging, "stealing LS banks", etc.)
a generally-frustrated and ever-shrinking server population

Do you REALLY miss b*tching @ people (or being b*tched at) in Dragon's Aery between HNM windows for 3 hours? How about RMT's jacking up your server's economy? Or RMT's outclaiming you @ NM camps using bot tools? Do you really miss the 2-5% drop rates on Salvage items? Do you really miss being in a linkshell with 50+ people? Do you miss being 17th in line for Adaman Hauberk? Do you miss waiting 3 days for your next Dynamis event only to learn you'll be doing Dynamis-Xarcabard again for the 5th time this month, during which time 1 pair of THF armlets and 1 RDM hat dropped, leaving only 9 more THFs and 12 more RDMs left wanting those items? Do you really miss standing around in Whitegate for hours LFG to EXP if you weren't on BRD/COR/RDM/SAM/WAR? Or how about that solo'ing EXP by whacking idle NPC "fortress" targets in Campaign. That sure was exhilarating.

The argument that "old FFXI" was "better" is subjective, yes, but also ridiculous. Sure, nowadays people can dual/triple box many of the "hardest" NMs by abusing critical-hit rate/damage and auto-refresh Atma. And that is mildly annoying, I agree. But that PALES in comparison to all the garbage that came along with "old FFXI".

If you don't like how Atma cheapens the game's challenge factor, then don't use Atma. No one is forcing you to use it.
If you don't like seeing "gimps" flaunting the "best" equipment, then don't look at them. No one is forcing you to /check those players.
And if you don't like Abyssea, don't do it. All the other content is still there. No one took it away from you.
And lastly, if you don't like "what FFXI has become", then for crying out loud, don't play it. And if you don't play it, lurk some other forum elsewhere!

great post elana....

I agree with everything you said.. One thin that bugs me is the 30 people that I have to compete with for Guku just so I can get a chance at red proc. But then I think about if it was old FFXI and that it could be 1-8 hrs between pops or better yet 24hrs.. I only have to wait 10 min to compete again.
