Hexa Strike is no joke, WHM is a decent DD too if you really want to go there. Can also make arguments concerning damage output of the group as a whole with various healers (WHM enables more aggressive play, kill faster, can essentially consider the WHM the source of the additional DPS).

Anyone is with an ATMA, remove that.

Let's not forget, Abyssea is done EP wise. Hopefully it'll go back outside by 99, so people actually need to be at least half decent at their job.

The most haste their SAM has ever seen on their legs is 2% (Perle). They have no Haidate, no Unkai, and I have no idea what the *** they used for TP feet at 75 (Hachi?). No Dusk Gloves, no haste belt of any kind. If I had to guess, they TP'd in Wyvern Helm or Ohat. Gimp is gimp, and now I know why they think tanks can hold hate.

WHM outparses noncrit jobs easily and tbh it's always been a good DD if you know what the ***. So no, I'm not going to remove that. Atmas only reinforced the point and put it above SAM and DRK.

Abyssea may be done, may not. I somehow doubt they'll just drop Abyssea-type buffs completely, but I could be wrong. And, uh... you never had to be particularly good to get ***done. A quick tour of Sky or Sea to watch the body shells whittle away at NMs is enough to tell you that.

Silly rabbit, when are you going to learn gear doesn't make the player?

Probably never, you have my sympathy.

Gear doesn't make the player but have you ever seen a great player with anything below even mediocre gear?

Most great players I know aren't decked out in Empyreans and full af3+2, but they sure as hell aren't decked out in gimp gear either.

Cure bombing draws *** for hate when you have minikin and -enmity gear. If that is your only excuse for not going all out you're a *** moron.

The only time a white mage should pull hate from curing is due to a TP move that just reset hate, otherwise you're doing it wrong.

Of course gear doesn't make the player, why do you think my NIN wasn't complete garbage for the 2 days it was wearing Aurore Brais? That said, gear imposes a ceiling on your potential... and yours is embarrassingly low. If you really weren't a terribad player you'd have realized the limitations imposed on you by your gear and at least gotten it to a point where it was functional by now.

Good thing you don't play DRK.

DRK doesn't belong in this thread because DRK isn't actually a job.

You built all those limitations up in your own mind, it's the gears fault or it's the mages fault or it's se fault.... Your nin wasn't garbage in Aurore, you just didn't know how to play the job, and there is nothing wrong with that everyone has to learn the hard way.

Experiance, it can be bought or taught and it's the only difference between those that can and those that can't and blame everyone and everything else for their short comings.

It doesn't matter how awesome or experienced I am at FFXI - if I use absolute garbage gear (which Aurore isn't so a bit of exaggeration here) like a 0% Haste build, I'm not going to do well. Period.

See, actually I did know how to play NIN as a DD/solo/eva tank job right off the bat. ***'s not hard after all, and I have experience with DNC which plays in a very similar manner along with being willing and able to do research on jobs that interest me and an understanding of gameplay concepts that means I know how to gear and execute a job with a minimum of playtime. What actually happened was I gained 4 haste, 5 attack, and enhances Yonin effect by going straight from Aurore to Iga Hakama +2. 5 attack is ~1% at best to my TP phase damage, but still an increase over my output previously. 4 haste on the other hand was at minimum a 5% increase in damage output for me, and in many situations it's more around 10%. It's also faster weakness procs, which opens even more opportunities and means we're not wasting time. You tell me that if I cloned my character and played them both, one with Aurore legs and one with Iga +2, and I'd have the exact same performance on each, I will laugh in your face. You tell me that going from a crappy eva set to a shiny one, meaning that I can drop some of that eva for DD gear if appropriate, and it doesn't increase my capabilities, and I'll laugh all the harder. Even if it didn't increase the number of NMs I can tank, it'd enable me to kill more things in a given timeframe. My time is precious and I only spend so much of it on FFXI, so that's a valuable increase.

Let's discuss the limitations of your SAM. You can't roll shadows for ***, the mob may TP more with you on it because it gets more attacks in, and your general output is terrible. You are not fit to tank and you can only barely be considered a DD. All the aggressive play in the world isn't going to make a bit of difference when it takes you a year and a day just to get TP. You have no PDT or MDT gear and as such, combined with your inability to roll shadows worth a damn, you are an MP sink. Now you're dragging down your entire alliance. What then?

Knowledge is only half the equation. The tools to use it is the other half, and it's clear you lack both.

Figured I'd do a chart on my opinion of this.

Ability WAR MNK WHM BLM RDM THF PLD DRK BST BRD RNG SAM NIN DRG SMN BLU COR PUP SCH DNC
1 P. Damage 10 9 3 1 2 5 4 4 5 4 7 7 8 7 2 6 5 0 2 6
1 M. Damage 0 1 3 9 7 0 1 4 ? 0 0 0 5 0 6 6 5 0 10 0
AoE Damage 8 0 3 10 1 2 0 0 ? 2 0 0 0 0 5 9 0 0 0 0
Healing 0 1 10 1 6 0 4 1 ? 0 0 0 0 8 4 8 0 0 6 6
Enfeebling 0 3 5 4 10 5 2 5 ? 6 0 1 7 0 5 6 0 0 5 6
Solo Play 2 4 7 7 10 8 8 5 9 5 3 4 9 8 7 8 6 0 9 9
Total 20 18 31 32 36 20 19 19 14+? 17 10 12 29 23 29 43 16 lol 32 27

This is why SCH sucks. It fail at doing what it does better than other mages.

solo > rdm
nuke > BLM
cure > whm

I wonder what you put them at 10/10 magic damage wise, pup nukes better.

Obvious entries to your list that you forgot : buffer job, expensive job, treasure hunter job, tanking job

Hell I stood around bound for a good 3 min day before yesterday (epic bind duration ftl) cause no one would erase me lol. Which is why I've decided to make my blu a tank
Bind? lol, BLUs don't worry about bind anymore. AoE Erase for 36 mp and short recast timer! Why were you waiting on erase?
All my set points were tied up between haste refresh 2 DD spells auto refresh and proc spells... I really hate thunderday. 23 set points just for proc spells is rediculous

Usually what our BLUs do is wait for the Discernment abyssite nod and then switch spells.

I do that as well. Not necessarily the best approach if something is nasty but we've usually got our bases covered such that I can set up with only 10 points towards proc spells tops. I also avoid swapping spells on larger NMs until everybody else has done their procs since it basically incapacitates me for a short time. Works 75% of the time!

I'd like to do that... But:

1. Lately I've been the only one or one of the few with discernment

2. We kill kinda quickly and people get pissed off at having to wait 1 min just to see if it's my spells (even longer if it manages to tp/cast right as it goes off and some nms seem to mostly cycle between the 2 or rarely melee lol or even worse their melee attacks count as tp attacks... /sigh

3. Hell I've been yelled at because I reset spells as they popped because the popper was an idiot and instead of waiting like planned popped at 23:55 just to be an ***
