Looking more at the lore. Actually, the skill-up books dealing with hand-to-hand. One (fictional)book makes it sound like some ancient Chinese Wuxia stuff, while the rest present it as as traditional sport or just a way to choke people really hard. Neither of those things being represented properly in any of the games, sadly.
It'll be totally bogus if h2h was out though. Skyrim, land of the Not-Vikings and bloody warmongers? That's just begging for manly fisticuffs. If they were to include it, I'm placing my bets on a more brutal and blunt style concentrating on even more endurance draining or disabling.
It showed a skill-up as "one handed skill" didn't it? So swords/axes/daggers are all the one skill perhaps? Seems a bit odd, but oh well.
Anyway, screw h2h, they said you can dual wield any one handed weapon, DUAL WIELD SHIELDS GO!
Old info.
Any weapon wielded with one hand is a "One Handed Skill" with perks in the "One Handed" Perk tree for each weapon available.
Just some example ones are, maces ignoring armor, Swords having a higher critical hit rate, and axes occasionally inflicting mortal bleeding wounds on targets (Damage over time).
Certain perks related to weapons are in some other skill trees though. The Dagger-specific perk of Mortal sneak attack (Sneak attack damage x5) is in the sneak skill tree.
Personally, I like that a lot better than "Blade + Blunt" From Oblivion.
THAT is pretty cool. I'm willing to say it's probably one of the better skill systems in the series.
I hope duplicate perks like that sneak/dagger example don't conflict, and rather stack or something. Feels like a waste otherwise, and could lead to players forcing themselves to come up with specific builds.

My bad, my entire knowledge of Skyrim comes from this thread, so yeah :p That sounds pretty cool though.

I think all Dagger-specific skills are in Sneak, but they also stack with Sword(Blade) based perks like higher Critical hit rate. I was never expecting a complete perk line for Daggers, Sword, Shortswords and every combo in there, so just having Daggers getting a significant bonus was great news for me.
Also, another really cool perk confirmed for Two-handed weapons (Unknown which, maybe all?) is cleaving arcs, IE, the sweeping power attack (Moving left and right) deliver Area-of-effect attacks. Something sorely lacking in all Elder Scrolls games.
Some how I see this as a install a few gigs of data so you will still have long loading screens and frame rate issues like in new Vegas -,- there's no way that demo was on xbox or Ps3 (never played a pc version on a Bethesda game so can't comment on that)

All released screenshots and demos have been for the Xbox360. If you need proof, you don't need to do anything but watch the demos and look at the UI prompts. Don't think PC has a Left/Right Trigger, Bumper buttons or the XboxGuide button, but maybe I'm mistaken on that.
This game is going to be crap, and just hyped up so much it'll only be a huge disappointment when it comes out
Okay thats not what I really believe, and I seriously hope it wont be true, but after just about every game I've been excited about the last few years turning out that way..this is what Im telling myself. Im still going to get the game the day its released of course (on pc for my fiance to play and 360 as well so I can play same time most likely >.>) I figure if I can convince myself of this, when I do get to play I'll just be going OMG YESSS SO AWESOME <3
Back on track though, I've heard a toolkit wont be released for pc version for skyrim (sorry if thats been mentioned or I misunderstood?) meaning no mods so that there wont be much of a difference between PC and console. Personally I like playing on consoles better, mainly because on a pc Im always tempted to turn things like msn on, then people distract me and I cant get as immersed into the game as I like. But at the same time I love modding my games, so much so I tend to go overboard (I've never finished oblivion cause I keep breaking the damn thing with too many mods ;~;)
Reading through all this makes me want to play TES again..although I know if I reinstall oblivion I'll just break it...again. I tried to install morrowind a few months back and it just wouldnt work, kept crashing on startup >_> I had that game on xbox many years ago when I sucked at rpgs and somehow...played it for long periods each day without EVER fighting anything, cause I kept dying to a rat. Wonder if I should dig it up and that old block of an xbox and try playing it again hm...
I suggest giving it a shot just to see how far Elder Scrolls has come (or fallen, if you wanna be That Guy). In terms of character customization and the depth of dungeon crawling, it absolutely trumps both Morrowind and Oblivion (the in-game character portraits ain't bad looking either).
The rest, however, is a different story altogether. People often cite this game as having one of the largest worlds ever to been seen in a video game, but 99% of the game is randomly generated with very little to interact with. Still an incredibly impressive feat for it's time especially, as this is the only game that justifies Fast Travel.
Actually, while character customization I won't argue, Daggerfall's exploration and dungeon diving is exceedingly shallow. It's one of the reasons I hated it. It was like Oblivion with 9000 more counts of tedium.
The fact that Skyrim is Hand-Crafted from Falkreath to Solitude is what sold me more than anything. Exploration is the quintessence of The Elder Scrolls games, and you just don't get a compelling world to explore with randomly generated worlds/dungeons.

Being a cynic 100% of the time, is way less rewarding than being just a little optimistic, and disappointed 50% of the time.

It won't be perfect, but it'll be above and beyond the current gaming curve in everything but graphical fidelity.

The Modkit (Creation Kit) was one of the first things they announced for Skyrim. Almost all the PC sells of the game are a direct result of the Modkits, and they're not going to squander that.

You should try and get it working for PC, and then download the Morrowind Overhaul project, which makes the game look better than Oblivion.
Not a huge fan of the minimizing skills to increase. Isn't that how a person levels in this game? (Played them all, question was rhetorical) It wsa one of the main reasons I played Morrowind to death was the immense amount of skill combinations to create almost any type of character that I wanted. Oblivion somewhat killed that with making all bladed weapons into Blade and all axes, clubs and maces into Blunt, but at least I could understand the separation between the two. You swing a mace much differently than a short sword, you cut with a katana much differently than an axe.
Fast travel in Oblivion is ok, but bring back Mark, Recall, and levitation. That was the other reason I played Morrowind to death. The ability to fly, or slow fall, or jump rediculous distances made for godly-like characters that were just fun to play.

One of the things I hate to know so little about, is the crafting system. So far, the only details we have about the "Crafting" system, is that there are at least 13 types of "Ores" (Perhaps a mistranslation for raw materials in general) that serve as the basis for the weapons and armors.
Looking as screenshots though, you can see an incredible amount of variety in equipment that seems roughly the same. I've found ten total sets of armor so far, all of which I wouldn't classify outside of the "C+" range in terms of quality (Leather to Orcish/Elven so far), if anyone wants to see the ones I've found, I can post a links, but that starts getting into "Spoiler" territory, since it directly impacts the quality of exploration. Discussing gameplay mechanics I don't feel carries that weight.

I'll admit, I havent been following this game too closely just because I have a serious problem with patience, and so Ive been trying to avoid too much til closer to release so I never read anything myself about the modkit. Although someone who is very excited about skyrim told me just recently about no modkit, because they want to get more sales on the console versions or something. I may have got it confused with something else and Im not saying its fact, just what I was told.
Also I did download the overhaul for morrowind last time I tried to install it. I cant even remember what the problem was, I reinstalled it 3 times in one night trying to get it to work before giving up. Each time I thought I figured out the problem and dealt with it, it came up with a totally new problem ; ;
For the record, I exaggerated a little about the 'if i tell myself it'll be crap' thing as a haha. I am excited about it, but I've just been let down by so many games the last few years that were called to be game of the year before they were even released. Im more just trying to avoid hearing too many details about it, and keeping open to the possibility there will be flaws and yada yada. Im just hoping to have a good surprise in what the game has, rather than go in expecting all these things and then realising its nowhere near as good as the hype made it sound. That said I am still looking forward to it when its released, and hope it'll be just as good as everyone wants and more o:
The main thing I disliked about Morrowind, was how easily you could become stupidly over powered. You could fly and be invisible >.>
Yeah... And even if you don't use blatant exploits like that, the game's difficulty curve is one of the worst-designed in history. Some people like that, but I suckled the teat of the NES era, and like my games designed with challenge.
But challenge in an RPG is something difficult to really nail, and maintain a sense of progression. While games like FPS's and action games focus on quick-brutal, Die-reload-die-reload for their difficulty, doing so isn't really helpful to the RPG mentality. What I find works, is a resource-driven difficulty, with occasional peaks of whoop-***. If you aren't equipped and skilled, you have to expend considerable resources (Be it potions, equipment or time) to overcome challenges, which in turn, leaves you at a disadvantage at the "Peaks" of difficulty.
Fallout 3/New Vegas accomplish this admirably, though New Vegas lacks any Challenge Peaks after a while. A Terrible player can expend 20 mini nukes and 3 shotguns to take down a deathclaw if they're that bad, while a Skilled player can do something like craft explosives, draw the Deathclaw in, cripple their legs and plink the Deathclaw down with a 9mm.

The main thing I disliked about Morrowind is that it doesn't matter how accurate you are with your ranged attacks. They still miss 75% of the time.
I hated that too. While I'm not against the whole "Die Roll" thing, I think in the context of the First-person action/rpg hybrid The Elder Scrolls games have always been, a "miss roll" should always contact, and instead deal like 1% of the weapons Damage to the health of the target (Though all the appropriate armor degradation still occurs for the hit).
I never had an issue with Deathclaws at all, the Dart gun made everything but sentry bots easy, and A3-21's plasma rifle or Protectron's Gaze made those easy as hell.
I probably hated Reavers or Overlords more than anything in that game, but on the most part that game was too easy even on Very hard.
Bethesda Softworks just announced the fifth game in the Elder Scrolls series and the sequel to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will be called Skyrim. And it'll be out next year.
Bethesda's Todd Howard introduced the game with a brief teaser showing a stone dragon and a dramatic narration that sets up the story of the next big role-playing game in the Elder Scrolls series. That teaser also dates Skyrim for November 11, 2011.
I cannot bloody wait. I've always loved the Elder scrolls series since Daggerfall.
