I wonder what was the highest level that could be reached. I ended up capping out at lvl 49 by the time I was done with the game. Ending up locked at like, lvl 20 with perfectly matched race, birth and class didn't quite feel right. That perma-vampire thing and NV's constant freezing was definitely a bummer.
Wanna know what else is made with Gamebyro? Want to know what isn't made with Gamebyro or the Fallout New Vegas engine?

Fenrir.Rinnsi said: another game using bethesdas terrible engine? wonderful, can;t wait for this to be so buggy it can't be played. Gamebryo wasn't Bethesda's engine, it was made by Emergent Technologies, and Bethesda only used it to draw the graphics. Their custom built Nettimmerse based game engine was actually pretty good considering the sheer amount of variables the game has to record, Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3 had an amazigly small percentage of bugs for the amount of game you get, which you'd realize if you weren't HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE. It's easy to bug-test a game that's basically an 8hour long corridor (Modern Warfare/ect). Valefor.Slipispsycho

Oh yay.. Now I just lost some interest in this game.. I planned to play it on PC and console-PC ports are often horrible. Take GTAIV for a more recent example.
I'm really hoping they mean:
Quote: Hopefully this doesn’t mean we will be getting a dumbed down version of the RPG, but rather a slicker and more streamlined game. ...like this translates to a better interface or something. That's ALWAYS something to improve, right? Clunky controls and a poor UI is what generally pushes people away I assume. I seriously cannot imagine someone going "THIS GAME HAS TOO MANY THINGS IN IT I HAET IT". Always ran with the idea that devs use "consolitus" as an excuse for incompetence but I wouldn't know. I can't imagine anyone saying that either.. I dunno about anyone else, but I like my games complicated. Not like stupidly complicated, but looots of stuff in it.. That's one of the reasons I liked DA:O so much.. You can go through the game without getting involved in too much of the side crap, like making potions or poisons or traps, but they do change the game. I like it when they try and persuade you to indulge in the unnecessary stuff, instead of just throwing it in there just to add the illusion of extra content.
I also like having lots of battle related commands to use.. I don't want a simple attack command, spell, and potion.. I want to need to use all the abilities at my command to beat the harder fights.. On the simple ones you keep running into, that's going a bit too far. I don't want to have to use my wits against every single enemy I come across. I know what you mean, allowing the player to tackle situations using optional content is one of the things I love about a good RPG. Half the fun to me is asking "How do I beat this guy? What do I need to use?" in certain battles without resorting to brainless grinding or spamming the "ATTACK WITH SUPER DUPER HOLY SWORD +41/CAST ULTIMAGA IV" button. Or for kicks, using alternate builds or so (in Elder Scrolls context, punching everything to death while wearing heavy armor).
That's where the challenge comes in I guess. There's a point where it gets tiring for every fight like you said, we don't want the game to feel like a chore. There's also some roadblocks in a battle system to avoid too. An example would be Legend of Dragoon, having to guard for a (really small) natural recovery was boring and painful, not tactical. Oblivion's attribute gain from the leveling system was horrible though. If you wanted to get the most out of your character, you had to choose very specific skills and refrain from leveling certain others (GEE SURE IS FUN NOT FORCING MYSELF TO NOT JUMP/RUN). If the player couldn't 'get' the already convoluted system, then they'd end up with a horrible piece of crap character. Hopefully this is what they were aiming for in Skyrim with all these changes. I really REALLY hope they don't remove h2h from Skyrim. I was really looking forward to being a h2h/magic user. I've loved that hybrid class since I've played Morrowind.
It was a bit... bad in Oblivion due to the fact that h2h was neglected. I'd love to see a full h2h build fleshed out and perked past the 'paralysing palm' technique. Oblivion and Fallout 3 were both Console to PC ports, if that makes any difference.
Hand to Hand skill removed, Unknown if unarmed fighting (at least an effective means) exists. Speculation stands that Hand to Hand fighting may have perks associated with it under "Two Handed Fighting" since the mechanics as they translate from Player to game, are similar. Makes me a sad panda. I'm probably one of the few people who doesn't actually like swords very much. I always use one handed axes over them. I guess I'll go axe and staff or something then. You are weird <.< Give me dual wielded swords and I'm happy. Not Katana's, but 'real' swords.. Daggers work in a pinch.
Now if only I could become ridiculously strong and dual wield claymores or something.. Damnit, now I have the urge to get back in Oblivion and just go chill in the battle arena. I loved H2H + armor. It wasn't even close to optimal, but once you hit the stage where YOU CAN PUNCH GHOSTS HOLY CRAP, it was just fun to play as.
That's the kind of stuff I mean though. There is absolutely no reason to take features out like that. Lack of resources and ability? Was the studio rocked by a mob of kung-fu monks? Did some big name reviewer knock off points because it had "too much punchy things ruined the game for me"? I DON'T GET IT :< h2h on a whole wasn't really optimal. I've yet to play an open world RPG where h2h keeps up with or surpasses a weapon user :(
But I don't give a crap, I'm punching my way through a daedric ruin... like a boss. It was pretty fun knocking an orcs weapon out of his/her hands too then getting it and consistently knocking them to the ground lol. Definitely assume Hand to Hand is out completely, but just from what I know about how The Elder Scrolls games typically go, I don't think it's likely you can't at least punch if you have no weapon, Consider that there is Disarming perks for block, so if it was impossible to be "Unarmed", that perk would be totally worthless.
One thing I always hated about Hand to Hand though, minus maybe in Morrowind (My opinion, the best representation of unarmed fighting so far), was how "Chuck Norris" it makes the character. I don't care what planet you hail from, you're not going to punch or choke a mammoth into submission. Seeing that happen really killed immersion more than the clipping, dialog issues or whatever. Fallout: NV did Hand to Hand as a lethal weapon well though, having actual Hand-to-Hand weaponry available. But this whole mythos of being able to strangle dragons and punch down Mountains with martial arts is utter ***, martial arts is 99% parlor tricks, and 1% fees for dues. Shiva.Tidusblitz

I don't think you'd be able to take down a real fire breathing dragon with a sword either. Suspension of disbelief. I just find a severe lack of lethality with unarmed fighting against anything with greater mass than a human being. I doubt even the best martial artist could kill even a mountain lion with his bare hands. The strength to weight ratio of human beings is just too low without us using tools like levers and wedges. Sorry you don't feel the same way, too bad? Also, I wasn't calling hand to hand in the game ***, I was just saying the mythos surrounding it was ***, that's all. Well I'm glad you're not a game designer then lol.
I have no idea what ES is trying to aim for with fitting H2H in lore. I'm led to believe it's supposed to a last resort (which explains crappy damage to a 'real' weapon) in case you're disarmed or you find yourself in a situation where you cannot bring weapons with you. Something that almost never happens to the player.
It's definitely not ima-shoot-chi-blasts-and-go-SSJ... unless you pretend that's what your missile magicka attacks are. Would be cool to set up more random encounters in the game. Maybe highway men mistake you for some defenseless peasant, then BAM, YOU WHIP OUT 'JUSTICE' AND 'MERCY', FISTS OF FURY. The again, that's where magicka should've came in. Fun encounters like that would give the player to not fast travel too (unless they'll likely get lazy and make it the only encounter, thus being tedious and stupid). On that related note, fast travel. Anyone know how it's gonna work in Skyrim? It's been around since Daggerfall, but back then, you had no other choice unless you wanted to run 1415 miles of randomly generated cornfields or some crap. I used to go h2h/magic so I could shoot magic bolts at enemies lol.
What can I say, I used to like DBZ. But all in all, whether you like h2h or whatever the point is, they shouldn't be taking random crap out of the game unless they're integrating or improving it. Yeah, like I said, Morrowind did Hand to Hand well. It was only effective against Humanoids and some creatures. Larger creatures had extreme amounts of stamina, making Hand to Hand not nearly as effective. The great exception of course was with Werewolves, which gain +150 Damage and +500 Armor Damage to Hand to Hand claw attacks. Shiva.Flionheart said: Well I'm glad you're not a game designer then lol. Well, as Ingrahm pointed out, that's exactly how it's handled in previous TES games, so I guess you're glad the Game designers there aren't game designers too. I agree, we still don't know if Hand-to-hand is out, we just know the skill is. But the Axe skill is out too, but I'm fairly certain there's axes in the game. Meant to edit my original post, I hate double posting :( |
