The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Kinda disappointed it didn't have the elder scrolls theme.
though it is pretty epic. Yes it did. It had the drum intro from Morrowind too. Listen to 1:04 again. :3
Ah yeah, so it is lol.
Also just saw this on Kotaku LOL Can anyone pick up this game or do you have to play the older ones to understand? :/ References to older games and stuff I can understand but is it necessary for the main story?
Bismarck.Dracondria said: Can anyone pick up this game or do you have to play the older ones to understand? :/ References to older games and stuff I can understand but is it necessary for the main story? Nah not at all. Each game is essentially it's own part of the elder scrolls story in general. THOUGH I'm not too sure about Skyrim due to it being a sequel to Oblivion. I'm pretty sure the story will be self explanatory anyway. Might pick it up then :O Don't want to have to play Oblivion (even though I hear it's good) because I have a lot of games to finish already.
Watch a lets play of it :D
I wouldn't be able to appreciate it as much if I did that, I like to play games myself instead of watching someone else.
Screenshots! No 2 is my favorite. No1 really shows the change in character models though, let's hope animations are improved in the same direction.
Also, take special note of the *dynamic, soft shadowing*. Oblivion originally had it, but was removed because it was cooking 360 GPUs. I wonder if the Console version(s) will have it disabled or if they somehow managed to optimize it in there. *-> If you don't know, look at all the "Mundane" Objects like stools, jars and other things. They're all casting a shadow. There's more over at IGN.com, but they interrupt every other one with a goddamn add page. Bismarck.Dracondria said: Can anyone pick up this game or do you have to play the older ones to understand? :/ References to older games and stuff I can understand but is it necessary for the main story? Absolutely not. There are many "Lore" References but each Elder Scrolls game is an independent experience with minimal reference to the previous game's story, and each game contains much in-game literature of the lore, so if you like what you read, you can read up about it in-game (How many games effectively implement fictional history lessons?) so not only do you get the context, but the material at the exact same time as almost an unconscious connection. It's actually sort of unfair to call The Elder Scrolls games Sequels. Aside from taking place in the same world with, as mentioned already, similar lore and world elements tying them together, each game is a unique experience from the story arc(s) to the mechanics. Continuity issues are less than secondary, but thankfully, not ignored for those who want to find them. GameInformer Coverage
Lots of screenshots and info about Skyrim all in one place. There's also a Podcast on there with Todd Howard, but you'll have to search for that on your own. There are other articles and whatnot on the game, too. Simply change the filter from "Previews" to "All" on the right hand portion of your screen. oh mygod o.o
*** it im tossing the xbox there is no *** way that pos can handle all that beauty Cerberus.Rayik said: I gotta agree here. I loved Morrowind, but the environment was ugly and bland. I though Oblivion's environment was much more immersive, with wind blowing through trees and tall grasses, as opposed to Morrowind's weird shell houses and scorched ground. I know the "alien-ness" of Morrowind was a big appeal for a lot of people, but it got on my nerves. I'm a fan of traditional sword and sorcery, pseudo-european RPG's, not Chitin-shell axes and riding huge bugs over flat, burned ground. I know this is way-way-way late, I haven't really been following lately. I liked it up until there was an Oblivion Gate every 20 meters. That ruined the game for me in terms of environment. Don't get me wrong, I loved the forests of Cyrodiil, but the geographical variance (or lack thereof) made the games overworld bland after a while, it's all about contrast, not just in experience (Exploration contrasting with Combat) but in the environment (Grazelands contrasting with the Ashlands) that make you appreciate the time you spend in the game more. With few exceptions, in Oblivion, it was all green, all the time. Also by "rewarding exploration", I mean the non-formulaic experience. In Oblivion, it was all done scaled, with randomly generated everything. It sounded good on paper, but at the end, you figured out the "Solution" to these, and realized your exploration was pointless. In Morrowind, you could jump in a cave, and not know if you were gonna find a Rusty Shortsword, or the Legendary Chrysamere (Southwest of Sadrith Mora btw) and that alone made the game instantly better, even with it's numerous flaws. Fallout 3 and New Vegas took heed, and returned to the rewarding exploration of Morrowind (Albiet on a less grand scale the former, and damn-near perfect the latter) Asura.Domz said: oh mygod o.o *** it im tossing the xbox there is no *** way that pos can handle all that beauty Just by knowing Bethesda's track record and how the develop for certain hardware architectures. PC -> Xbox360 -> PS3. Even though the PS3 has vastly superior hardware, Bethesda's experience with the console is lacking, and their PC roots and the fact that you can drop PC code right into a Developer's 360 kit means the 360 will <Likely) Turn out as the better console choice. Of course, Bethesda hired a lot of new blood for Skyrim, and maybe they all have excellent PS3 dev experience. Considering Skyrim has been in development since 2 months Before Oblivion shipped, I doubt it. They "build the games on PC" but "optimize them for the 360" according to the recent interview with Todd Howard. Kind of surprising really, seeing as the PC versions almost always turn out better.
I can't imagine playing an Elder scrolls game on anything other than the PC :/
Cue console wars.
More fun on consoles, more options on PC. End war. What makes it more fun on a console?

So can I with my PC, get a VGA - HDMI cable, it's not hard to get wireless peripherals or even stretch the cable most of the time. If you really want to use a controller I'm sure the PC will support it.
Bam, you have the best of both worlds. It's the exact same with XI, people claim that they want to chill out and play on the couch, well you can still use a PC in that case, with utter ease. Better graphics, mods, etc. really make me sway towards the PC version on any multiplatform game really. I can't think of a single type of game that a console would REALLY have the upper hand. The precision of a keyboard+mouse control scheme is also quite a draw really. :\

Well I prefer to play RPG's like FF's or Tales of games on the consoles normally, but then if there's a controller option not really. In other words, yes, you can build a house yourself and take 10 years to get every detail perfectly the way you want it, or you can buy a house that will be half the price and still be close enough. Or you can take less than a week to build the house and have a far superior build quality that won't fall apart and require repairs in 2-3 months.

I've just given you an easy option to play an elder scrolls on a superior platform whilst retaining the comfort of playing on a console and you disregard it as too technical. Ok Ent. Boom, settled. I've been playing my PS3 recently, but only on games that have no PC port. I mean if a game has a PC port I'm going to play it on the PC and use a gamepad if necessary.
edit: The only thing that annoys me on non-steam games is lack of achievements, but meh. THe PC has yet to have been infested with shitty motion control gimicks as a mainstream control method, too. Seriously, *** all of that ***. If I want to flail around a glowing ball (PS Move) or my own balls (Kinect) to play a game, I'll go play strip poker at a nightclub.
Consoles, at least in my opinion, have had a steadier framerate, due to not running any processes other than what's necessary.
This is the part where I get chewed out because some people are such devout PC gamers that anything said that sounds even slightly negative is immediately made out to be an insult to your whole life. No, I'm not saying PCs have bad framerate, I'm just saying I have a better framerate on my Xbox 360 version of Modern Warfare 2 than I did on PC. |
