With our large database of characters and many of them linked to user accounts, FFXIAH.com has become a great way to find/contact players, even if you don't play FFXI anymore. Players will eventually move on from MMO's but friendships gained while playing can last forever.
With that being said, I added fields for screen names in other services such as AIM, Yahoo, MSN, XboxLive, and Twitter. These may be displayed on your character's page and on forum posts.
-Edit- I asked for your location such as city, state, or postal code... postal codes may be converted to nearest city. My plans are to make an interactive map using the Google API to find players around you, or to just browse for fun.
Again, these are all optional fields and they are for connecting users.
LoL if y'all are afraid of being stalked, don't share. Hell if you still want to post something, but still have some reservations, make a dummy SN and post that info. If you get stalked, delete and make a new one as needed...
Should I be asked for a postal/zip code, I would prefer if it was only the first characters of it. That is more than enough to locate my approximate location on a map, and there's no way someone would spend the time to search such a "large" perimeter in order to stab me in the back. I don't know if that's possible to do through google maps/earth. Also, I live in Canada, I do not know how other countries postal services work but I would guess they all do in a similar way.
Should it not be possible, I might simply type some random postal code of someone who lives several streets from me. Not that I believe someone would stalk me, of course, but just to follow my own principles regarding online respect of privacy. Besides, what's the point of taking any *unneeded* risks.
Risks? Here are some that come to mind:
-RMT sites spamming your actual HOME mail box with adds (lmao...) -RMT sites spamming your actual phone line with automated adds (lmao +1)
You don't need more to understand my point, I'm sure.
Edit: Sorry if some of the previous posts reflected my idea already. I should take the habbit of reading a thread before posting impulsively... XD
It's a clever idea but I'd start with the small stuff first, see how that works out after awhile then slowly add more detailed stuff. It'd be a shame to have personal info get abused through malicious intent of advertisers etc.
So after you fill out this stuff, where does it appear? Like on your profile when you search someone? I am not seeing it >< and I want to stalk people O_O j/k
On a side note, if anyone wants to go find out where I live, go ahead and search the map for me. Hell, if you really want to try to kick my ***, I'll even give you my address and everything, but I'm not currently there atm lol.
I'm more like across the sea in Japan atm, so you would have to go find me there to try to kick my ***.
Honestly, I don’t see why so many people are complaining. Myspace and Facebook are far more invasive then this new feature will ever be. With Myspace and Facebook you got location, pictures, names, age, all the good stuff a real stalker would need to stalk you.
And what does this feature do? Tell you where you the general location of where you live… unless the stalker plans on knocking on every single door in a 3 mile radius, knowing absolutely nothing about what you look like, how old you are, what your name is, and in some cases what gender you are, (I thought Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooodum was a girl. >.>) I think it’s safe to say this feature is harmless.
P.S. I added myself! I see a few people around me but.. no one from my server.
