YOU TARD!

So according to you, since its PS3, this problem shouldnt even exist... yet it does... hmm. So the "Full HDD" error message is just a fabricated figment of my imagination...

The only way PS3 users can even play FFXI is to install PS2 drivers from PSN and work from there! You claim you played on your PS3, but you must have forgotten you had to do this step 1st.

PS3 users ARE PS2 users!

i have to install something on my PC in order to run old *** DOS games does that mean my computer is from 1990? Just cause you install the drivers to play the ps2 games doesn't mean it transformed your system into a ps2, they run differently on both systems. Just because 1 problem happened on both systems doesn't mean they are the same.

I play on ps2 and didn't have any problems other than the usual congestion in trying to actually get the content to begin downloading. I have never had any problems with MY ps2 playing this game, on the other hand my family members have had their hdds go out, freeze, black out, error out you name it. Ps2 HDDs seem to have an internal timeclock in when it expires, your HDD dies.

There has been a memory issuse for the xbox 360 version for awhile in where the game will freeze and turn off and when you try and log in again it says that the game needs to be installed and when you go to your HD you can see the memory taken up by the game but it doesnt show at all. The only way to fix this is to format the HD, which sux if you have anything else installed/saved on it(ive had to do it twice.)

This may be a similar problem that is now affecting the ps2 verison where for some reason its reading your HD as full and wont download until you format and reinstall the entire game. I wouldn't try that until something is confirmed by SE, either through a known problem or possible patch, but you may have to do it.

I see a lot of people say it works uninstalling on PS3 but has anyone got it to work for PS2? Also, has anyone found another solution? Cause, I sadly can't reinstall and I'm not gonna buy another system for their mistake especially this close to the holidays.

Ok so i have a speculation, which i'm trying based on something SE said in the announcement. Part of a "Clean Install" was selecting no to keeping current info like saved accts/macros. Well, i Deleted all 4 saved accts on my ps2, and am now redoing the download, i'll let you know how it goes, but i speculate it will work, seeing as this effectively also deleted TONS of SS's i forgot were takin up space along with macro's, saved user settings for each account, etc. etc. Ok nvm on waiting to update you, just realized its at 93%, about ready to tell you if it worked... and.... 95%...96%...97%..98%...99%....and nope.. gdi don't waste ur time/macros on that idea.

And i'm sorry, but really, PC users should not be posting here. Your uneducated, opinionated responses are highly unwanted by PS2 users seeking valid info on their issue via this forum. I mean seriously, go figure, some people have preferences not the same as yours!!! /checks if the sky is falling? Do you like mustard? I don't. I have a damn nice PC, and the game installed on it, and the new update completed fine on it, but I just so happen to feel like the game play format on ps2 fits my playstyle a lot better. A good friend plays on a $7,000 Alienware and lags in areas i don't ever lag on ps2. Also it's very sad windower has become the standard, and such cheating is so widely accepted, the general player basis think's you're gimp if you don't have a program counting shadows for you, doing 500 gear swaps in one macro, and telling you when to recast refresh on said party member. Grats, you guys have 0 skill, and come here to rag on people who keep refresh up without a counter telling us when to recast it. Sorry for the long post but I'm very tired of filtering out 5-7+ PC user opinions, to 1 PS2 user's information on the topic i came here to read.

Windower's shadow-counting plugin sucked, I don't know of anyone that used it. Nor does casting refresh with or without timers take any amount of skill...

I do agree people shouldn't *** about people playing on PS2 though and have not done it myself.

PS2 was a cheap way in 2005 for me to join all my friends playing FFXI.

My old 25" TV and PS2 work well together, as has been stated elsewhere. I am a casual player, and like the controller. Also, security is never an issue. I use my PC for work, and my PS2 for fun.

My problem now is my disks are somewhere in a 10' x 15' storage unit with no lights and it is 9 degrees outside here in Iowa. So at this point I have no way to do a clean install anyway.

I would really like to keep hearing updates from other PS2 users on options they find that work.

Also, has anyone on PS2 attempted the check files option on POL startup screen? I'm currently doing this but there are 33,412 files to check, and well, its going relatively slow, 1second+ per file at times, should i not waste my time?

PC user, GTFO. Noone mentioned DoS or PC issues before you decided to troll it.

You are totally missing the point here, and being unrealistically productive.

1st gen PS3 were designed to be backwards compatable. It is in no way altering the machine to force it to run something else. It does exactly what it was intended and marketed for. Yes, it is essentially the same thing, and it is still highly unknown why its affected some PS2/3 users and not others.

To those here who are afflicted by this please ignore the morons who are PC>all. Keep it proactive and keep the topic relevant. Noone this thread is intended for gives a flying *** what you think about the PC version.

I finished doing a full wipe of FFXI, the file itself was over 13gig. The new partition only created a 12gig for the new files. I installed all 4 discs and while waiting to prep up the 12487 file update I decided to contact SE to find out anything new. surprisingly not that long of a wait on the customer service hotline, maybe 15 min. I had to get a password restore since my old info was saved to the machine. I told the rep what I noticed on the new partition and he told me it was somewthing they were unaware of and passed the info onto the programmers. He also told me they werent sure yet as to why some users were affected and not others, but the age of the discs may have something to do with it. Older discs contain a lot of obsolete info that were never deleted, just recoded over and creating congestion. My dics are as old as the PS2 HDD release, so I guess we'll put that to the test when the install is done, but to far so good.

I'm doing this now, however I doubt it deletes unwanted files so it seems to be a waste but I'm testing out everything possible for a PS2 fix since I just can't uninstall it.

I play on PS2 and tried that...didn't help. I can't do a clean install because I haven't been able to find my ToAU disc. I actually went out to buy the PC version and a controller to be able to play on my laptop (still not in game yet since download is taking forever), but I am not giving up on my PS2 since I enjoyed playing FF that way and had no issues up until now. Ugh so frustrating :(

Luckily I have the Vana'diel Collection 2008 so only 1 disk to reinstall on my 80 gig PS3. Currently I am dowloading the files, shows a total of 12369 files to download. At the current download rate it will be over 8 hours to complete, already have 6338/12369 downloaded.

@Dcon, yea, the reinstall is working for ps3 users, sadly, many people in this thread thing ps3 and ps2 are same, they are not. They are 2 different systems, despite the backwards compatibility, and the game does not run the same on both by any means... I have both, and find the game much much more laggy on ps3. PS2 users are unable to reinstall/play from what i've read on BG, and no posts here for a successful reinstall on ps2 as of yet.

Just logged in pc and spoke w/ a friend in game, PS2 player since release, multiple ps1/ps2 game saves on his HDD, and he had no troubles with update, thus discounting what Guen said SE speculates about certain PS2 players getting through. Appears to be luck. Successful ps2 updaters should go buy a lotto ticket tonight ^^

a ps3 playing a ps2 game is either emulating it or running on the ps2 hardware itself, it is the same thing. (on the emulator thing probably worse)

The PS3 (even the early ones with PS2 CPU) don't have the PS2 sound chip so FFXI sounds suck when you are playing it on a PS3. And honestly the sound is the ONLY thing that makes the experience of playing on a PS2 not so "miserable" due to extreme low resolutions and featured "frame-hate".

While I LOVE the PS2 version I'm forced to admit that since CoP released the framerate got worse and worse through the time. -_-;

I got an xbox 360 as a graduation gift, installed ffxi, then played it for about 3 months before going back to PS2. I like playing on the PS2 better and I'm really hoping this problem gets fixed so I don't have to go back to playing ffxi on xbox indefinitely.

Exactly the same here, 12369 files. Been downloading about 12 hours now and still 2k files left to go.

I haven't seen any PS2 users say it works... Mostly it works for the PS3 users. Lots of the PS2 users on BG say it didn't help their PS2 at all.

personally I don't have a problem with either of these two things and I don't typically have the audio set too loud, because it's annoying.

It works:

Take your time, read the forum like the rest of us. Only ps3 players are reporting it works, Not one single word from a PS2 player saying it works. Unfortunately, I don't read/speak japanese, and i don't know wtf Mariane's SS's are about. I'm assuming it's JP ps2 version, but again, everything i've read is NA posts, and i could care less about a JP version, i want to know about mine. I'm sure all JP ps2 players are online by now, just like 90% of updates put NM's in their time, and 90% of the players online after an update first are JP. Please go post those SS's on an appropriate website where people understand what they say.
