I've been trying for 3.5hrs now on ps2. I've done around 15 file checks from start to finish. The first time I got around 600 files downloaded before maintenance ended and I haven't got any since.

If it's file.txt and you're on pc try my link above, don't gaurantee it'll work but maybe you can get past that portion after you check files.
Then I have to back everything up just over a lousy .txt? file? is it just that??? if its just t he .txt then ***yea, I dl to a separte file and mebbe just add it.. What would it hurt? Just remove it, and then re add it?
Well, i learned my lesson, don't try to do $!$@ without a backup.... 1470 files corrupted and downloaded from every mirror and tried to overwrite. every version check is corrupted. now my file repair cant connect to PoL servers. Serves me right... bah.

I don't get it, downloaded from the direct link, it replaced loads of files but in the end did nothing, still where I was previously, is it possible it doesn't work with EU versions?

Rename the Download in Final Fantasy XI
and load it into your Sqaure Enix Folde rit will just add new files at the right place.

in your Playonline/FinalFantasyXI/ folder, if it's the txt file you need.
Back up the other in that folder first!
Btw sorry if this direct dl ***is breaking people's stuff. I totally have no idea why, and didn't make it of course.
If you feel paranoid about it, I'd just err on the side of caution and get the download legit.
Meh No Rush. I bet by tomorrow at 6:30 am after I get home, the download will come in smoothly...
Its just cuz of the rush is all.. Everyone is in the Express lane atm, and i'm just cruising in the Collector Lane.. No rush man...No rush.

whoohoo!! did a system restore and it worked! but now i cannot connect to server for download
damn it dl'd the update files, made a back up, replaced files. started pol does file check, everything is good except it needs to dl 9 more files but when it come to this part i keep getting network busy error . . . . bah so close.

I downloaded the manual update and unzipped everything into the right place, but now it just says I have something like 1470 corrupted files, and I can't connect to the server to repair the files. =/

No idea if this will help, but if you haven't tried it yet, log off pol and use the check files there from the menu on the left. Pick XI from the drop-down box, and it should check all your files and then download whatever else it needs to "repair". (Aka the update).
Again, no idea if that'll solve connection issues in any way but who knows.

Nah, this is what I/we did, and this is where it told us how many files were corrupted. And when selecting "repair" it gives a timeout error.
What Misuto said, sadly, but thank you! I'll just have to wait it out and hope once I am able to connect everything can be repaired and all.
Thankfully tonight is my one night off this week so I have some time to try to get this working. Sadly, this is my one night off this week so all of this crap is ruining my chance for play time. :(
