Take away visible numbers; the value is supposed to only matter for its placement in the reported queue.
When the system was 1st added it was said being able to see it when you aren't a mod/admin was bad simply because some would obsess over it and others would try and use it for a real rating system rather than a reporting system and it was called "QQing".
(And that kind of star system had even been suggested in the sticky when Scragg talked about adding a rating system)
Here we are in yet another thread talking about the ratings and they don't even have any effect on a post.I can only imagineor I could look at that other site to see the annoying behavior of the rating and rated persons if the ratings actually filtered unreported posts.
Admins, take away their ratings, people obviously aren't responsible enough to resist trollin each other with it or to handle having numbers. The numbers watching them. With beady little eyes. Judging.
Well seeing as rating someone down clearly causes annoyance and distress, and is simply there just as a tool to troll people, I suggest that we remove the rate down button and just keep the Rate up button. That way good threads will be rated up, but people won't be rated down into oblivion for whatever reason. I suggest we still keep a report button though.
I know most people don't care about ratings, I'm pretty much in the same boat, but it would be much better being able to keep a thread on point, and not resort to "you rated me down!!!1!!!!1one!1!" comments.

I've seen other "rating systems" used in various boards. For example in the Codemasters forums (here for F1 2010)...
...they use stars to rate entire threads instead of individual posts, which is the standard style for vBulletin. I always thought that was handy for seeing which ones were worthwhile reads, even if there was some evidence of trolling and/or derailing going on in the threads themselves.
Here in ffxiah.com, having "too many" negative rate-downs doesn't "collapse" an entry to where is it not viewable like in other forums or boards (like youtube or newsvine, etc.) anyhow, so the value of negative rate-downs ends up being more like 'venting frustration anonymously' or 'I'm too lazy to take up a contrary position to this post but wish to express displeasure' I think.
As a side-note, I always joked to WHM friends that the WHM AF from Dynamis looked like one of those leather 70's hippy jackets. :p
