Windower banned already?

The Windower XIV site is down due to a cease & desist issued by Square Enix. More information will be available soon.

Holy crap! I only used this stupid thing for the whole Windowed full screen option. I like being able to alt-tab and still play at full screen since I have 2 monitors in my setup.

Just logged on 14... Im not in any trouble. Phew~ that'll teach me I guess..

They've also sent C&Ds to people hosting the patch files (ZAM and FFXIVCore).

So far I haven't been hit with one, but I'll be watching my inbox today.

That's crazy. They were so laid back in XI. I just would have never thought they'd crack down on stuff this fast.

Basically. By the time they wanted to do anything in XI, it got out of hand. They'd have to ban the entire PC population. This way, they can monitor the situation from the beginning and handle it accordingly.

I can't decide whether this is a good thing or a bad thing.

I mean.. I feel like before I knew about Windower for XI, I played just fine and thought XI was a kickass game.

Learning about Windower and other plug-ins, and even third-party apps, it was like an addiction. Once you started using it, it was nearly impossible to go back to playing the game the normal way it was intended by SE. Ex. Such things like Windower and Spellcast(Plug-in). If Spellcast had broken, I was pretty certain to uninstall the game that day.

I guess what I'm trying to say is.. Maybe its better they keep this stuff away. It's terribly hard to walk away from it once you start using it. I already had gotten attached to that Windower for XIV and now it's gone D:

As long as they go after genuinely suspect programs like bots with the same zeal as they seem to be going after the WindowerXIV people... I have no issues with this. The windowed mode in XIV seemed to work rather well. (As long as I either hid my superbar or played in a slightly lower than desktop resolution.) Perhaps down the line SE will provide a Windowed mode that is actually fullscreen.

all it'll take is one huge lawsuit and some hapless idiot being sued for a decent amount of money for them to instill fear into the people that try to open up these type of sites.

True BUT that won't stop them from suing the person.
