How would you rate the game in comparison to PSO and PSU Dark?

NOTE: My laptop sucks and is old (About 2007) but was still somehow able to play this game. The pictures you see are at the lowest setting of the game. If you have laptop/desktop that's actually designed for games then you'll have a much more detailed and crisp game.

Although I will admit even for lowest setting the graphics are rather decent.

Between PSO and PSU I enjoyed PSU more since they added more game mechanics to the game (photon arts) opposed to just aim and shoot/slash.

However...the story for PSO was 10X more interesting then PSU

Between PSU and PSO2 the gameplay by far superior.
You can actually explore terrain (to an extent) where you can actually jump on terrain.

Jumping is actually a neat future since with ranger you can actually stay in the air doing PAs until you stop (normally 3-4 actions b4 you land) So keeps you out of range of stuff if land based mobs if you was solo'n or something.

You can also evade in game. They introduce this in Phantasy Star Portable which was the portable version of PSU.

How you evade depends on the weapon.
With Range weapons you actually barrel roll in the direction you're moving. Very good for projectiles or if mob is running at you.

Melee weapons seem to just do short range dash.

Force does some sort of short distance teleport if they have wand in their hand.

Example: In the forest mission depending where was at I (ranger) would be on top of terrain while shooting at stuff while hunters went in and raped stuff. Force would sometimes doing what I'm doing depending how far there technics went.

Mobs (some) actually have weak spots in game where aiming or slashing for one particular spot makes a huge difference.
An example of that is this one mob when he's in his defensive stance most hits do 0-1 while if you hit his weak spot (back of the head) he'll drop quickly.

One thing I like that they improved from PSU was assigning Photon Arts.
In PSU you could only have one PA assigned to one weapon.
In PSO2 you can have up to 3.

Regular shots don't use PP
Only PAs do

So really if you wanted you can just hold the attack button and keep swinging/shooting...of course don't do alot of damage that way...

The neat thing about that is you can chain them together.
With full PP(if around 100) You can pull off 3 PAs in a session. That's my knowledge with bullets it may be different with melee weapons and technics.

I enjoyed doing this during bosses:
Normal = just press
Hard = Timed press (like how they did in PSU where you do more damage then normal.)

Normal > Hard > Hard Cracker Bullet > Hard Divine Launcher > Hard Zero Distance.

But really as long as I don't move I can just keep in that spot and keep firing normal/hard shots until PP back up. (of course most mobs won't be able to do that)

Oh people who liked force might like that you can actually charge spells now.

The gameplay also adds new twist to things.
You have main objective of the mission.
But you'll also sometimes (at random) have Emergency Codes.
They're normally the following:
Emergency Code: Attack = Mobs spawn and have to kill.
Emergency Code: Elimination = Similar to Attack except your locked in an area until killed.
Emergency Code: Protect = Random NPC will appear can't let them die. Or a support carrier crashes and have to protect it until repaired.
Emergency Code: Rescue = There's there red spiral things that if they catch you will send you to a certain part of the map and trap you in a red dome with endless mobs attacking you with end. So other party members have to help break you out.
Emergency Code: Arrest = Normally this is part of the mission's objective. Mob has something you're trying to retrieve.
Emergency Code: Collect = Something within the map you have to grab to continue.

And to add to the mix there's
Change over Code

That occurs when a second Code occurs while a previous one has started so 2+ codes at one pretty much.
Here's an example: I believe on this one it was Duel followed by a second duel.

Most of the areas are multiparty so you'll see other members outside of your party too.

Mags
Big one.
MAGS are treated how they did in PSO.
Where you had the MAG follow you and it affect your stats according to how you feed it.
As a nice enhancement. They show you what each item levels on your MAG opposed to in PSO where you had to find out from trial and error. So makes it super easy to level a mag how you want with 0 errors.
Edit: Slipped my mind.
Similiar to PSO when MAG evolved they had a supportive assist.
In this game think it depends on the MAG type but mine (bullet based) would heal me a bit sometimes if my HP where to go under 1/3.
Also they have "Attack" assist. depending on the mob it'll do something to harm mobs. My Range based MAG would shoot mobs with bullets at times. The rate it does is rather common.

Photon Blast.
In the Beta we only had one but like PSO the type of PB you had was based on the type of MAG you had. Unlike in PSO where PB was more like a cutscene, you can still fight while your MAG does it's photon blast.

Oh they also add skill trees in game (think something like WoW)
It was quite limited in the beta but you it can be altered how you wish to play the the job (iirc you have to use AC (ArkCash) if you wanted to redo tree or get an additional one)

On Ranger they have had a few neat things in the Tree
Jellen Shot (Launcher): Made attack from mobs much lower.
Weak Bullet (Rifle): Where ever you shot you'll see a red circle target. When you hit that spot you'll do more damage then normal.

Since Launcher was stronger then Rifle in terms of spike damage most would:
1. Shot spot with Weak bullet on rifle.
2. Switch to launcher and raise hell with PAs

Weak bullet combo does wonders if you shoot an already weak spot on the mob.

If anyone had any questions feel free to ask.

From the time I played in the beta. I love the improvements from PSU.

There's somethings I do dislike about it but it's tiny things that can be overlooked.

Oh yea one more things (unless I remember something else)
There's also Emergency Missions that occur at random times during the day. Unsure how often they occur as I've only seen them happen once. In the beta there was only 1 mission.

You'll know they're happening because there will be a notice about during in the lobby or if you happen to be looking at the big screen as I was when it happened...you'll see this...

If you was curious on what's that about you fight this SOB at the end of the mission....

As far as the JP version goes...they mentioned sometime during the summer however I question how that'll work out since they mentioned either doing a 2nd Closed Beta or an Open Beta so it might be delayed.

Now for the US version.....0 info on that one.
Haven't been any mention of it but seeing there's was an English setting within the dat mine someone did it's an assumption.

My guess is before the year is over for US.

If you was wondering how most of my content in the videos are in English. Someone made an English Patch for the Closed Beta so non japanese players (or just thoughts who know 0 japanease period) could play the game.

Without the patch except for general names...everything in japanese. So I'm glad someone made one.

The group who made it planned on patching most of the final game so technically if you was one of those people who couldnt wait for US release can just play with the patch on JP server...

There's talk (probably speculation)
Of having just one server but there's a Ship for English Players.

Oh which reminds me.
Unless they change it. IIRC character are bound to w/e Ship you make them on. Within that Ship you can go to w/e block you want anytime.

For example. During the CBT PSOW decided Ship 2 Block 20 would be the PSOW server along with English Players.

As for servers themselves. I'll wait and see...if they pull a PSU where English servers get updates 6+ months later then JP then I'll just stick with JP and hope for english patch updates on the regular from the group whose making em.

Originally people had a huge issue with the Ark Cash.
Imma wait to see how I feel about that until it's finalized.
One thin I disliked was that you couldn't trade people unless you bought the premium set which included to my knowledge:
Your Room
Able to set up shop
Trade
One other thing but forgot.

Also...can't buy scape dolls in game..only through AC. Of course this can overlooked as the store before mission start has Moon Atomizers...so no scape dolls doesn't bother me too much

Good, keep us informed if that happens. Id rather have the JP version translated because usually any NA PSO release makes it to where items dont make it to the US shores that stay in Japan. Sega is the worst in the JP Onry department.

Sure thing.

One thing I disliked about PSU was that updates between US and JP was servere gaps.

Whatever updates/event JP got....US normally got that very same update 4+ months later...

Since I never played PSP2 I can't say but seeing that the game style is rather similiar to PSU I'd still say PSO2 is better in it's own right. :P

PSO2 is well.....more PSO (lol) based with a mix of PSUs stuff in it...
Example of that is the photon arts.

Oh forgot to mention....they brought telepipes back. ^.^

Like I promised, keeping you up to date with PSO2 :P

It seems the Pre-Open Beta is set for the middle of June
The registration for for the Pre-Open beta for new accounts should be tomorrow.

Seems those who played in the Closed Beta get in either way.
If the Pre-Open beta goes off without any issues then the "Open Beta" will be done shortly after...

Here's the link if you wish to read into it

Pre-Open Beta for late June

They also have the Closed Beta reports if anyone interested...

Honestly, PSO2 is a totally revamped Phantasy Star Universe (in terms of the open world again, sort of).

I just want news of an English release already, even if it is 2014. I really don't want to have to play this game in Japanese. I'm doing enough of that with PSP2i.

Well there's some good news in that regard.
There was a group who making english translations patch while the CBT was going on. Which was really the only reason I was able to play the game as thorough since I don't understand japanese.

I wouldn't see a reason for them not continuin the project in the fina release...

If they do that I'd gladly play on the JP server...

Plus I have a feeling sega gonna pull a "PSU Moment" when/if the English version comes out so im being cautious

eh but with the way japanese companys are lately NA needs to show sega we realy want this here or they may not release it. <and PSP2:∞> >< so im hoping SEGA dosnt go the Capcom route and not release games here or at all due to "loss of intrest in the comunity" basicly its the BS reason for the cancleation of MML3 and them not releasing MH4 3G and MHF in NA.. tho there are patitions for it so hopefuly theres one going for PSO2

There's a petition out for Valkyria Chronicles 3 (it's brutal playing that in Japanese, may give it another shot later). Loads of people are even willing to pay to host a site showing how much we want it.

Just wish SEGA of America got rid of their "Sonic or gfto" mentality.

Yeah I did all that stuff but realized I needed to move to PSP2i (I had about 250 hours on PSP2). I decided to start fresh since it would be doing the exact same thing I did in PSP2 which is spam 2 mission in hope to get another 15* in one element ._. The enhancements are ridiculous. I can actually use a Long Sword again.

Please don't quote me one this but specifically for PS Related stuff like PSO, PSU ,etc was generally based around SoJ (Sega of Japan)
Events, updates stuff... SoA (Sega of America) doesn't get stuff for the game until SoJ gives it to them...

So it kind of the matter of "helping our people out while everyone else gets it when ever we get to it (not a priority)

Edit:

GOOD NEWS!

The site for Pre-Open Beta Registration is up.
http://pso2.jp/preentry
Here's also a guide to help you out with that.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe if you participated in the CBT there's no need to sign up for anything should get something in the newslatter email automatically but I haven't got an email yet so I'm staying tune on that.

Seems those who participated in CBT are automatically in and won't get an email.
It only when you haven't made a JP SEGA ID you'll get emails.

If this is your first time making a JP SEGA ID
You may need to type in the box for JP Captcha
Lexilogos's Multilingual Keyboard

Good site for that. Just look at the characters and find the symbols that match enter them in the box and copy and paste those symbols in the line. Might be some trial and error but You'll get it done

If they do how they did the CBT, they'll send you a link via email to download the client normally the day before it goes live.

As for what you're suppose to see in the email I'll try to figure that out in a few.

Edit: If you've never had a JP Sega ID or first time you ever registered for PSO2, the email you get if you did everything right should look something along the lines of this:

Also
Here's another version of registration for PSO2 (If you don't have a JP SEGA ID or just haven't registered PSO2)

PSO2 OBT Reg Guide by Stheno
He also provided the downloader of the Closed Beta (at the bottom). Which should be used for the Open Beta seeing that SEGA recommended users not to uninstall it.

Can't patch it obviously until the server is actually up but would save time trying to download it when it came up was murder lol

Ok I think I've put some thorough info up enough for people to register :P Getting tired so think imma go to bed lol

I will attend to the Open Beta.
And remember your character WILL be saved for the final release. (If you plan to play on the JP server)

Which as long as the group who was making the english patch keeps up to date.

Either way i got used to seeing the menu in JP ovr time
