then after a few months people SMN burned everything or grinded everything out thru level sync and getting partys became hard again
Exactly. But every MMO has issues to start with. XI still has a fair few glaring omissions.
I'm not going to say XIV is perfect, but I'm far more excited for it than any update in XI anymore.

Seeing as how the open beta currently has a higher population than FFXI most likely ever had, I'd say there were people that consider it fun. But the quality is undeniable.

Your in a community of people that have been playing FFXI for years, of course their excited. But they are by far not the norm.
No matter how you look at it, Final Fantasy fans will bee the greatest majority in FFXIV.
They will, but they wont all be FFXI players, they will be more casual players then hardcore.

that was just magical that was. I had to wait 4-5 hours for a friend to come on and D2 me.

They're just pandering the the fan-base to keep fans from moving to XIV or just stopping playing.
Even if I wasn't migrating to XIV, I wouldn't be playing XI anymore. The game feels dated in a bad way. I can deal with graphics, and I can deal with re-used animation... but when they release end-game that encompasses multiple characters and my game lags on a high end machine that can run XIV without lag I just can't be bothered.

HNM is really a relative thing lol...no HNM is hard. Nidhogg KB Aspi Tiamat Khim and Cerb are the main HNM, and every single one is cake. There are things in abyssea that make the 3 kings look like leaping lizzy, but they arent 24 hour pops. So are they standard HNM? no. But are they challenging? hell yes.
