Ban on Gay Marriage Struck Down
Pandemonium.Scrumpet said: Valefor.Yishay said: it would appear to me that no one really cares about the legal side of this ... marriage IS NOT a right ... I don't completely understand this statement. . . If marriage is not a "right" then, what is it? It's kinda funny... the concept of a "right" is not universally defined. In Finland, every citizen has the right to be provided high-speed internet. Clearly, in California (and in the US?), it is a right to be able to get married. I think a judge wouldn't just make that ***up. It's delusional to think that they would. Bahamut.Shaj said: P.S. OH LORD NO... Sorry to sound so politically correct. :P And something tells me he's gonna kill himself anytime soon anyway because he'll be living it up getting gay-married and such. I just wish he died already <3 In all honesty, I believe "Marriage" shouldn't exist at all in the context that it does now. Currently, marriage is a relationship or bond which is recognized by law in the form of a legal contract. The fact that it's a legal contract (And nothing more) degrades the so called good values it's supposed to uphold. The government really has no right to be involved with relationships to begin with, a relationship should be a bond between two people, not two people and the government. It would be better if they abolished marriage all together and let people handle the bonding

Quoting myself, Cause I wanna get married! <3 The bible it taken far too literally, it's intended to be a guide to becoming a better person. The problem is people try to interpret the bible literally and force it to fit a given circumstance, which always ends poorly. I hear "This is God's will" a lot, but in reality it's a persons interpretation of "God's will". What right does any human have to tell god what his will is? The entire point of religion is to teach people to be able to make sound moral decisions themselves, but people just fail and screw everything up.

That's really why it degrades it, they're turning the sanctity of marriage into a financial issue Bismarck.Magnumatic

Why ban gay marriage anyways?
Ban something that actually does harm to the world.. Like religion??? Fairy.Haxorking said: In all honesty, I believe "Marriage" shouldn't exist at all in the context that it does now. It would be better if they abolished marriage all together and let people handle the bonding I agree with you to an extent. I agree because my husband and I would be just as in love without the wedding ceremony, and be just as much together without it. But I disagree because for one, having his name makes me feel somewhat protected, and for two, and our health and such go together. For instance, if we were not married and one of us got hurt and was in the hospital, the hospital would have no obligation, no right even, to let the other one know about it. And sorry, but I'd want to know. Immediately. If there was no marriage, we could be as in love as we wanted but yet still have no legal right to each other's health records and so forth. And if they tried to fix that by releasing things such as health information to significant others, then any old fool could tell someone he was my 'significant other' without any marriage as proof and see my records, which I would not be thrilled with. That we do not like to hear the thoughts of people on gay marriage who believe in talking snakes, women made from ribs, unicorns, a flat earth, people who can live in big fish for days, that you can put two of every animal on a boat smaller than an aircraft carrier for 40 days, believe witches fly around on broom sticks, slavery, murdering children who do not obey their parents, human and child sacrifice, and so on out of a book also telling them gay marriage is wrong. If that has any basing in your ideas on gay marriage then promptly go make a video about it on youtube so people can own you for my viewing pleasure. EDIT: Oh and add "a flat earth" to that list. I hate to say this.. But he makes a pretty damn good point. Bismarck.Magnumatic said: Why ban gay marriage anyways? Ban something that actually does harm to the world.. Like religion??? I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. It's the governments control over relationships that should be abolished, the term "Marriage" should be the emotional bond between two people, not a legal contract Bismarck.Magnumatic

Fairy.Haxorking said: The bible it taken far too literally, it's intended to be a guide to becoming a better person. Exodus 21:7 (New International Version) 7 "If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as menservants do. Leviticus 25:44-45 (New International Version) 44 " 'Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 2 Samuel 12:11 (New International Version) 11 "This is what the LORD says: 'Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity upon you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight. Deuteronomy 22:28-29 (New International Version) 28 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. [a] He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives. Revelation 9:4-6 (New International Version) 4They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5They were not given power to kill them, but only to torture them for five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes a man. 6During those days men will seek death, but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them. The bible is encouraging slavery, rape, child rape, and torture... How is this a guide to becoming a better person? A wedding ceremony can be organized on ones own accord, that has nothing to do with the government as is. As for the namesake, you can also legally change your name without a marriage license, you can just go do that yourself. Typical marriage rights can be granted under a common law/domestic relationship. The point I'm trying to make is more about the way people view marriage rather than the practicality of it. No one seems to care about emotional bond between two partners anymore, all they care about are legal documents

The bible has been rewritten so many many times over the years it's impossible to tell if it even resembles the original. A lot of the bible teaches the morality of the past, morality evolves over time which is why you can't take the bible literally Bismarck.Magnumatic

The bible has been rewritten so many many times over the years it's impossible to tell if it even resembles the original. A lot of the bible teaches the morality of the past, morality evolves over time which is why you can't take the bible literally An alarming number do, and there are too many people who believe the world is 6-12k years old because of it. You should check out the atheists on Youtube who just troll them and scientifically or logically prove them wrong. There's a lot of atheists that make incredibly idiotic arguments as well. At this point in time, there is no evidence that definitively proves religion does or does not exist, as of now there's no reason to debate that because it's moot. Both sides will continue to believe they're right regardless of what anyone says. Whether or not there is a divine force in the universe, most religions are based upon improving ones self and becoming a good person. That's really what people should be spending their time doing, not nitpicking at every little phrase in ancient texts. In all honesty I don't believe the common opinion that religion is what keeps gay marriage from being legalized.
I'd imagine that in the long haul encouraging heterosexual marriages, and keeping homosexuals from being in civil bonds actually increases the flow of taxes into their coffers. (and by them I mean the gov'mint) Bismarck.Magnumatic said: Fairy.Haxorking said: The bible has been rewritten so many many times over the years it's impossible to tell if it even resembles the original.
