I wasn't trying to put down AI games, or learning new champions.
Back when I was new at the game, AI wasn't around, and most games I got slaughtered. Then I sat down, poked around online for info on the types of champions, what they can and can't do, and just went from there. I asked a lot of questions.
Meh bots are great for 1 thing... learning how to last hit from lvl 1-3. After that straight to normal, but I do custom matches and *** around with someone else Ik to try things. Like head butting 2 hecarims at each other by dragon. AH GOOD TIMES AARON GOOD TIMES

Playing Ashe today I was sucking it up, constantly missing ults and generally lacking confidence. I was farming really well though, and stayed optimistic. So we got ganked at bot and I survived, tried to ult someone as they escaped and missed. I was sourly disappointed because we could have killed him. Then it said I got a kill anyways, turns out it went all the way and killed someone at mid!

Harass back, if you get a solid gank once from jungle you'll be ahead enough to win lane.

In my humble opinion, the point of solo top is to hold the turret until your team can heave-ho mid or bot lane. After that, the teams usually start roaming a bit and you get a bit more freedom.
When I go solo top, I just play it super passive. I rarely harass back unless I think its perfectly safe to do so. If they decide to turret dive me, I do everything in my power to make them regret it by firing everything I have at them. Granted I never did Ashe solo top mind you, when I do solo top I try to make sure its a pusher champ of sorts (Wukong, Yorick, Irelia, etc).

I mean today I was Shen vs Teemo, and any time I got in range to throw my Q (which is rare with Teemo's move speed) he'd blind me and hit me at least twice with his poison darts. Or when I play Fiora against Jax, it's pretty much guaranteed that I'll lose because he can just jump away if I get the drop on him, if not he just jumps in on me and stuns me and gets some free hits.
Some solo tops I like are Irelia, Shen, Riven, and occasionally Ahri (if against Rumble, Teemo, etc.)

As far as turret diving goes, well... if they turret dive and you have enough HP to survive the encounter, they are being quite silly. :P Shen solo top is an absolute nightmare to try and beat if they don't get the chance to harass.
Just try the whole passive thing the next time you play solo top. Its much easier to gank for the jungler as well as the enemy has to move a larger distance for safety. Works like a charm!

fiora vs jax is rough. it can go either way. just gotta get riposte up in time :D

If they deal physical damage yes it does.
Depends on how much armor the target has. If they have a lot LW would probably be better. If you have no other armor pen I'd get a last whisper.
From the wiki on effectiveness of armor pen items: Last Whisper becomes more effective at penetrating armor than The Brutalizer when an opponent has more than 37.5 armor. It becomes more effective than Youmuu's Ghostblade at 50 armor. It becomes more effective than 3 stacks of the Black Cleaver's debuff at 112.5 armor.
