Well that's ***. I assume they're just blocking certain ports now on their side.

Have you guys tried to port forward the game?

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

It's worth a go, maybe you can unblock it from your side. I had this issue with steam games on Orange back in the day, port forwarding helped quite a bit.

Ports have been unlocked for this for a while. It happened all at once on the 28th i think. My computer logged an error at 9:32am. I even bought a £150 gaming router jic and same fault. I optimised wireless channels and ***. Then i checked here this morning and saw its a common fault thats occurred before. Only way you can stay on unless you get a patch in this thread i not used is to refresh wireless channel every single zone and i think this is happening to ppl that use ethernet too.

i doubt it would be a pol issue for most of us as we can get into the game to insta R0 and can play using a VPN which means you cant do anything that involves a party.
however i may be wrong on that but thats how i see it

To clear this up.. I'll put it in bold.

It is not POL screwing up.. It is not FFXI screwing up. Somewhere down the line, the ports are being blocked by TalkTalk/Virgin Media, I wouldn't be surprised if some idiot BT OpenReach engineer has done it by accident. We can use a VPN fine which simply acts like an overcomplicated mirror, if it was FFXI/POL screwing up, a VPN wouldn't work and the problem would be a lot worse.

I'm able to connect to PlayOnline now but it gets stuck just before loading the main page and disconnects before showing the Games button. If Virgin Media customers are having the same issue then it can't be a Talk Talk issue. Edit: The FF11 site loads, but very slowly. Edit-Edit: Apparently I'm not longer able to load the FF11 site...

Yeah i'm having the same problem >.> It started this morning Yesterady I was fine getting on the game.

I had problems today too, during a Nyzul Isle run, but it was rather strange how it was working.

Basically in every other zone (E.g Whitegate, Alzadaal Undersea Ruins) my connection was fine but when I would enter the Nyzul Isle zone my connection would start acting up, going from between 300-400 S and 400-800 R to about 70-90 S and 80-100 R respectively, occasionally slipping into R0 every few minutes, making this run near-impossible to be able to do properly... due to delay in actions (5 seconds between commands such as attacking and ninjitsu) and slowly loading floors. (At some points not even mobs would load fully, a Rampart only half showed on my screen as a giant aura of white light, the Rune of Transfer also failed to load at times)

The people I did it with also mentioned they were having some lag issues inside, but nowhere near as bad as myself, meaning perhaps that Virgin Media (I use this ISP) have blocked the ports that access that zone itself or something, I'm not quite sure how it works.

But I've had similar issues before, like this exact kind of lag about 3 months ago in Xarcabard but instead of going "In and Out" of D/C's I would eventually full D/C and not be able to get back into the viewer at all, nor the sites.

I was able to browse the internet fine but the POL site was incredibly slow.

The same is happening here. I logged on before work (around 6:50 am) and it was working fine. I managed to make some quick gil on the AH and had to leave for the day.

Typical... it works when I can't play. =\

Whoever is at fault (Virgin Media or Square Enix) I hope they fix this now that the weekend is over and the engineers are in!

My friend who was with... AOL I think it was (yes lol AOL) had the problem that made it so he was being DC'd every 2 hours exactly. Numerous phone calls later and still the exact same issue. Nothing could be done to fix it because they were closing ports on their side every 2 hours, and re-opening them, because games take quite a bit of bandwidth, and they had to re-allocate it to other customers.

He's with BT now, and it works, but the ISP did nothing. Phone up and claim you want your Mac code, if enough people do it they may react.

Also if you're on a contract IT DOESN'T MATTER they are breaking the ToS on their side, therefore the contract is null and void. Make sure to let them know this when you call them. If they are still being awkward about it, Contact Ofcom as they are actually breaking the terms of service, and are blocking you from accessing certain websites and services. I've been through this with a friend who had a DACS on his line, and we got it sorted out eventually, you just need to be persistent and let them know that they are actually breaking the contract, and you will contact ofcom about them.

Not a big deal, I have 9001 stone stored on "what's his name" in Port Jeuno anyway.

Read the last few posts, and the TalkTalk/ Virgin Media still haven't fixed this? Good lord... I don't know if I'm happy or not that I'm emigrating to Aus =/, and yes I know there is a lot more trouble with the internets there....

What I feel like doing right now:

had another talk with an actual english agentat talktalk and he told me that Interleaving was switched on in my account which apparently affects packets and ping rate, this will be turned off in the next couple of days (usual 24-48hrs bs), reason for this is it affectes online gaming (CoD/WoW/FFXI),
and this time the agent seemed like he really new what he was doing,
He even asked my which FF game it was, XI or XIV so guess it's just another waiting game to see if this gets dealt with,

On a plus note he did read the TT members forum while on the phone with me and understood this wasn't a single issue..

But not getting my hopes up yet... and still changing at the end of the month.

Just managed to log in perfectly fine on a mule character so decided to switch over to my main. My happiness lasted for all but a glorious 30 seconds, as I realised that I was still R0ing straight out of the game.

Unable to log on with any of the 3 characters I have now. Seriously enough is enough now, just checked in with the TalkTalk forum website and STILL no activity on 3 different threads from those so called OCEs.

Looks like I need to set the wheels in motion and change ISPs as this is growing more annoying by the day.

Well I've not read all the most recent pages but I don't seem to be having any issues on virgin media. I was away the whole weekend so maybe I missed issues on my ISP. either way it's not good enough. >:(

So they changed your/everyones profile last week? I'm slightly dubious.

At least this is beginning to sound like a step in the right direction, more information other than turn your router on and off. Glad TalkTalk employ at least 1 person who speaks English and knows a little about computers.

This is the information I found regarding Interleaving: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interleaving

What on earth has it got to do with blocking our attempts to play FFXI? I cant seem to find anything within that information to suggest why it would cause us not to be able to play FFXI, or am I missing something here?

I'm just going by what the agent told me, like i said he knew there are 2 FF games albeit one hasnt been released yet but still understood exactly what i was dealing with, plus this caught my eye on wikipedia
Quote:
interleaving is a way to arrange data in a non-contiguous way to increase performance.

Now I don't know much but if Interleaving being on means data is non-contiguous then wouldn't that be a problem as FFXI requires a constant data-stream connection?

Still why does it allow us to play between the hours of 5am - 8am and then not for the rest of the day?

If interleaving was effecting the whole thing, shouldn't it be for 24 hours.

Interleaving does place latency on the connection and for UK 5am-8am the lines are very quiet, therefore we have more available speeds and less traffic to deal with, then of course, the nation wakes up and screws us all over again.
