Like I said earlier:

If Hotspot isn't working for you anymore, try here. If that doesn't work.. Even though I know you are shooting yourself in the foot but try paying for HideMyAsses paid VPN for a month.. Or, you can invite each other to it and get a month of it free. I've been using HideMyAss since the linked method, and the Direct attempt were failing, this has been absolutely solid, and as an added bonus you can watch stuff like Hulu if you change the IP to a US one (I know you can watch Hulu on the Linked method too, even though oddly enough the IP is actually a Japanese one).

Hi guys, im so glad i found this forum topic yesterday, i thought my game was busted and was very close to un-installing/re-installing it :/

Also a Talktalk subscriber (previously on tiscali) and i'm having the exact same problems as you all are. I'm in North Wales and play FFXI off my Xbox360. P.C connection and my PS3 are both completely fine just the same character log-in situation after POL... 4days after these complaints still no headway has been made or public acknowledgement/apologies, thats disgusting for a company thesedays...

Kinda funny how this past month they have been relentlessly calling my house when im not there, driving my mum insane, trying to get me to upgrade to a larger package and recive the line from them too (we were on BT) they finally got me when i was sleeping one evening and had a guy read off a monotonous script at me to which (at which point i was too tired and coulndnt give a s**t to contest) just agreed with everything he said to get rid of him and ended up with a new 18 month contract with them covering the line etc (takes a bill off my mum so i don't mind) and now they pull this stunt shortly after, really kind of annoying! If its not resolved within a week then im going to have to change ISP (probably go back to tesco since they should do broadband at my location now)as the 30 day contract cancellation date will be drawing closer and i dont want to be stuck without FFXI for 18 months, i may as well quit it if thats the case, which i should'nt have to because of their error...

Sorry for the long rant lol but i, like you guys, are extremely annoyed about this problem and want it fixed asap!!

it wont happen for over 18 months! lol to be honest they have until wednesday before i get my own personal engineer out to check my line and certify thats its nothing to do with me whatsoever..

considering ive downloaded the trial version of WoW and that works perfectly says theres a minor issue at their side..

we have 16 pages of rants and jokes etc.. but enough is enough now.

we've haad them admit its their side and potentially blocked it as a pnp program.
admit here and there thats they did maintenance
we've had "its not our fault"

well time to get this sorted once and for all

I'm also on talktalk, <edit: couldn't ._.> get on FF11 since 5pm or so but it finally let me back on literally just after midnight (could be hinting something maybe).

Not trying to get anyones hopes up, but it's working for me so it might be worth another try soon.

I've got on today at 7am and I must say the connection is looking a lot more stable. Lets hope it stays this way and is not the usual morning exception.

EDIT: 50mins later, starting to lag.

so at 10:45am everything went down for about 5 minutes, internet and phone all went off, i thought "yay they're working on the issue, but to my disappointment once my connection returned, the game still wouldn't work, however after calling talktalk yet again to find out why i lost it in the first place, we done some settings and for now at least the game is up and running like it was before.. w/o hotspot on... so here's what i done you can check and try this yourself people...

open the browser and enter this in the address bar: 192.168.1.1

username: admin
Password: admin

Click on advanced

Scroll down on the first page and look for MTU..
i set mine to 1432 then saved settings, logged on and got to playing.. this worked for me so give it a try but don't shoot me if it still doesnt work for you :p

also some routers work on MTU values 1400 or 1431.. something's bound to work out so hope this helps.

EDIT: so much for that one.. got about 10 mins of stable connection, retraced to bastok S and R0'd straight away... talktalk calling me back later so will give them another earful then.. until then ima just play FFXIII for a while...
sorry for any false hopes there guys

well after doing several different tests talktalk's conclusion was "As you are still getting your broadband service and only the game is affected, this issue will not be worked on as you are getting the "service" you are paying for.

In short it seems talktalk are NOT even gonna lift a finger to deal with this problem, so it's goodbye talktalk for me.. had enough of their BS.. :/

The OCEs will just spin the same crap as their call centre counterparts. I think the best way to move forward with this is to just sign up with a new broadband provider.

yeah sure, if talktalk DO fix this issue then fair enough i'll go back to playing ffxi but i've already spoke to BT and o2 and looked into changing ISP due to the fact i've had nothing but issues with talktalk since i signed up with them, o2 was very interesting, although for now i would need to sign up with BT for line rental before o2 take up the calls and broadband service they informed me that as of the end of august/beginning of september, o2 will have their own engineers and line rental, so basically if i wait 1 month, i can just call o2 and sign up immediatly w/o having to deal with BT, and that would only total £30 monthly since i'm already o2 mobile.. so yeah.. might have to put up with talktalk's rubbish for another month but deffinatly gonna change over there and then.

I've never actually had any issues with TalkTalk until this saga with FFXI started. The majority of the time the connection has been very stable, but the fact that we cant play FF between the hours of 8-8.30am until about 4.30-5am is just a little hard to deal with, especially when they say its nothing to do with them, when clearly it is. Otherwise we wouldnt even be able to get on to FFXI to R0 in the first place!

yeah it's deffinatly an issue with their equipment but after my last post i got a call back from talktalk saying she spoke directly to the engineering team that stated they're having no problems (bs we all know) and that they're not blocking any ports, but i told them w/e ur full of it, u have an issue, ur not fixing it, i'm changing ISP and after the 8 week period is over i'm contacting Ofcom again to lodge a formal complaint with them.. either way i'm done with talktalk's crap

I don't blame you at all. Unfortunately I'm not the account holder for the internet at home so unless I can talk them into change, I'm pretty much stuck until a resolution is found, which the way things are going doesnt look to be any where on the horizon at all.

After two phonecalls with foreigners who couldn't understand a word I was saying and both put down the phone on me twice because of this, I have decided instead of wasting my breath repeatedly saying the same question over and over again that I will burn bridges with TalkTalk and move on over to Sky.

My friend plays FFXI on Sky broadband on the PC and 360 and never gets disconnected and talks to someone who can speak and understand basic English.

P.S: The first person I spoke to said that, "This issue has got nothing to do with us, and it won't be repaired anytime soon." Which means it probably their fault as they say they won't repair it. >_>

I'm most likely going to make the hop after I've used my month of paid VPN access, might start the wheels in motion tomorrow actually, getting a MAC code off TalkTalk is going to be a pain in the arse.

im paying for final fantasy and cant play that you useless ***.
that being said i am really dissapointed in the fact they wont even try to fix this problem :/

Kordian of ZAM forums said this on ffxi forums, might be of interest..

"Sounds like traffic shaping, though why XI has managed to be hit by it is a bit of a mystery considering the traffic it generates is extremely low. A few years ago I had a similar issue with Virgin Media and Ventrilo-- you could connect to lobbies fine and chat for about a minute then the ping would go through the roof and it would be unusable.

After weeks of phoning them up and nagging and getting nowhere, I called their customer relations department instead of technical services and asked if it was being shaped and they said the could not tell me. I said if they did not tell me whether it was falling under their traffic shaping policy or not I would cancel my contract and then submit a freedom of information request for a list of all shaped applications and ports, and use that as evidence in a small claims court to recover my cancellation fee and an amount based on the time they have affected the service incorrectly.

Less than an hour later, I received an email explaining that it had been incorrectly categorised as a Peer to Peer application and had indeed been subject to traffic shaping, and that it was now removed from the list and should work correctly. Lo and behold, the next day and forever after (until I did cancel eventually) Ventrilo worked perfectly.

TalkTalk users should investigate if this is the cause of the issue or not. Check their site or email updates to see if they have updated their policy to include traffic shaping recently. I advise not going down the FoI route until you cannot make any further progress."
