Japanese Translation Help Requested

I've been working on a project to completely translate the original 18 or 19 Vana'diel Tribunes that have only been released in Japanese (as far as I know). It's a bit of a struggle but I do alright with it most of the time. I'm having a hell of a time translating this particular paragraph though in the "Women of Vana'diel" section of issue #12. If someone could translate this part for me I would be very grateful. :)

Background: It is Kauffman, the author reflecting on his life and people that he knew in Jeuno.
