Old PS1/PS2 RPG Game Recommendations

since we mentioning RPG games, heres one i have that i liked though i never played the first 2

I just finished dowloadi... *ahem* purchasing The Legend of Dragoon and my 1st impressions of it are good, I think the emulator settings need tweeking a bit because when you get into a battle the sound go's "WYAGGHHHHH-HISSSSSSSSS" and doesn't stop so you have to restart the emulator, which is annoying because every few foot steps there is a random fight ;_;

That sounds so wrong in so many ways, by sink my teeth I mean "play for hours on end" and oldies I mean "old games"

Seriously?, Atelier Iris was terrible....

Game advice:
-BoF 3 and 4
-Thousand arms (dating sim style rpg)
-Star ocean second story (sooooo much replay value cause the different possible characters and ending possibilities loved it if it not possible to get on PS get the PSP one SO:Second evolution)
-Tactics Ogre (Strategy RPG can go down multiple paths in this game and it also has multiple endings)
-Brave Fencer Musashi (the PSone one as there is an attempted redoing of the original on ps2 did not like it much)
-Legend of Legaia
-Legend of Dragoon
-Chrono Cross (music to this game kicks ***)
-.hack series (it has an interesting story and music though the play though does tend to get repetitive)
-Disgaea (Great story and very humorous)
-Digimon World games (they are fun to play so many different digimon to play I enjoyed it)
-Tales of the Abyss (have yet to play it personally but heard from several friends it was a good game and I am going to try to get it myself).

So many good games so little time lol.

On a side note, an online version of the original Digimon World (much much bigger ofc, imagine scaled to today's size/graphics/etc) with a few tweaks would actually beat life.

Dark Cloud 1 and 2 for the PS2 are both really fun. Most PCs can easily handle Dark Cloud, as it never really uses any complicated effects and never has any more than like five models on screen. I'm not sure about Dark Cloud 2, way better graphics and effects, might give your pc some trouble. Just make sure you purchase them legally. ;)

Completely agree! I have Digimon world on my PSP and I spend many bus hours playing it, love the game.

Just like to add Summoner, which is a PS2 game. Great story and game play, although nobody I know has played it so it may not be too popular. They did a second one too on the same console. I have it lying around the house somewhere but have never played it for more than 10 minutes so I can't give any opinions on it.

I mention Grandia - No one even notices it. Srsly, you never played that game?????

Breath of Fire 4 (*** genius)

FF12 (11 without the grind and idiots and love the license board thing)

FF7 dirge of cerberus was okay for an action/third person shooter/rpg hybrid. You have to be a 7 fan to like it i believe. For me im a vincent fan (named my son vincent)

oh and i seen someone mentioned SO second story. I have never played it (only played till the end of time (loved it) and the last hope (hated it) but Im reading up on SO the second story and I love the graphics! I miss sprite based rpgs like this! they always had the best stories because they had to make up for the lack luster graphics and this one looks really good! now to hound ebay for a copy of it on loldisc

How has no one mentioned the Suikoden 1,2,3,4,tactics,5 yet? They are easily some of the best PS1/2 RPGs made.
Among them, Suikoden3 would be the best. The way the story was presented is truly revolutionary for it's time.

Vandal Hearts 1 & 2

Has anyone played both PS2/DC versions of Grandia 2? Thinking of buying the PS2 version and hoping the problems people have mentioned are a bit overstated, because it's fantastic. But I don't have a DC anymore :/

So I'll second that and Persona 4. Playing through Persona right now and it's awesome. Probably my favorite PS2 RPG!

I just got a ps2 emulator to work on my PC and it makes FF12 a whole nother experience...

The graphics look really good and on a 52" TV fullscreen it's a great substitute for FF11 when you dont feel like dealing with the bs in FF11 but still want to play in a party

If you have never played this game, you do not know the meaning of an RPG. One of the best RPGs hands down.

I so agree with Despayn. I loved The Legend of Dragoon and beat it several times. I also liked both Summoner 1 and 2. I really loved Castlivania Symphony of the Night for the PS1. And FF10 for the PS2.

Its an rpg because your character levels up, your role play his story, and you equip items and weapons and solve puzzles.

Platforming action rpg, but still an rpg nonetheless.
