I just got the final stage done today and I am very impressed Yes a base 100 tachi gekko they come close to being the same i give hagun that but when it comes to tachi rana and sekkenoki and your 2hour hagun bites the dust. If your looking for a 100tp ws greak katana stick to the hagun but the direction they are taking sam lately Im going to stick with my new found friend. On top of the weapon vs weapon your not factoring in gear and merits or race etc. this will need far further testing before you can crown any sword. I popped a 1983 tachi rana with this no bard with seigen up on a hippgriph. thats the kind of things this gk can do. and blah blah blah.
In addition to Nehalem's comment, being able to out-DD a hagun with only base damage would also mean doing more damage on a Sekkanoki or Meikyo Shisui weaponskill.
this weapon becomes masamune which is currently at 97 base dmg. For anything non level sync, Masamune should overtake hagun. I'm sure with more updates down the road, Masamune will get more upgrades, leaving hagun to be only used in level sync situations.

Proving once and for all that Omniscient LS and its Sheep are are in it to win it (for Syto)
Good post Nehalem, and somewhat concur with Aeronis on this GK about sekkanoki,
would not change Meikyo Shisui however, as the TP bonus of Hagun is applied to all ws's used while SP is active.
But the minor .14% difference would in my opinion be compensated for by the extra damage factored in during sekkanoki...already seeing a flood of hagun on Ifrit and nobody is even finished with magian weapons yet XD
Even with 89 base damage, this will *not* be enough to surpass a Hagun. Inclusive of melee hits and WS, you would need a 450delay 94-95 base damage GKT to pull ahead of Hagun's TP bonus on a parse.
Play around with the damage equation on FFXIclopedia:
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Calculating_Weapon_Skill_Damage
And you'll see that adding the 100TP's worth of fTP added from the Hagun will yield consistently higher numbers than a higher base damage on the weapon.
Also... 30:70 (for Hagun users) is a more realistic damage split. It's a great alternative to a Hagun if you can't afford one, but certainly isn't a replacement by any means.
