If you dont feel like shelling out the current amount of gil for Hagun then this is a very respectable weapon to have. In the end, it's really down to preferance, Hagun will grant you a tp bonus, so you'll be performing a minimum of 200%tp Weaponskill. With this weapon you'll be Weaponskilling with an 83 DMG rating, which is 8 points over that of the Hagun. Bearing in mind you've also got the hidden bonuses of ACC+5 and ATT+18 contributing towards your over-all damage.
i feel that this GK is good for 300%tp no doubt. but it is also affordable to those who seek a good cheap GK. 30k is not alot. i spend more than that for one red curry for christ sake. yes hagun is UBER GK! but lets be real. not all SAM. will get a hagun. its not exactly cheap!
That being said, if you take 2 SAM with the same gear(and skill) and give one a Hagun and the other Onimaru, <100 TP Onimaru will be far better than Hagun and >100tp onimaru DMG will still be 2 higher than Hagun without the latent active and dps will still be higher. On EVERY WS Onimaru will have 8 more DMG and 18 more ATK than Hagun. Despite that, at 100% and 200% TP Hagun will always win in WS DMG. This leads to people beleiving Hagun is better because us DDs like higher numbers, but if you look at the overall DOT between the 2 GKs, you will hardly see any difference between them and does not justify the millions of gil between the two.
I've been using an Onimaru for months now, and I always have someone ask me why I'm not using a Hagun. I couldn't afford one; Onimaru looks cooler to me; and I have a decent damage output with this. Simply put a Hagun is not neccesssary to have, some people still don't understand that overtime Onimaru is better.
Hagun vs Onimaru... well, Onimaru's a very solid choice for GKT. At least better than like, lolushikirimaru and such. However, Hagun is the better GKT for maxing out your DPS. It all depends on your playstyle though; if you want to max DPS, and go all-out aggressive, then Hagun is the way to go if you can get your hands on it. The difference only really shows if you're spamming self-skillchains whenever your JAs are up and if you WS as soon as you hit 100% when they aren't. The more WSes you do at low TP amounts, the better Hagun is than this.
This has better DPS but let's face it, SAM's not a DPS melee, it's a WS melee.
Personal experience only! I've borrowed the hagun from LS member and there is a difference in WS but it's hard to tell. I've gotten 1k+ dmg on Great colibri with Oni at around 100+ TP. In a merit party, I can't said that the difference between hagun and onimaru is night and day. It is far from night and day. More like noon and afternoon for me. I've party with a sam with hagun and the WS dmg is not consistent. I've out dmg a few times and got out dmg as well. But isn't this like all other weapons? There are other factors that are in play as well. Now, if those other factors are constant(which it isn't!) then I would agree that hagun would far outdmg onimaru.
Until you have a Hagun there is no excuse why you shouldn't have this. This KILLS shinsoku in every way. 1 more DMG, 5 more ACC 18 more ATK. shinsoku has a stupid tp gain that will NOT turn your 6 hit into a 5 hit because it procs for so little and so infrequently.
