Think of how many married men were suddenly roped into bondage because of 50 shades. Think of how much money Home Depot made.

I really can't express my disgust and loathing for that fanfic enough.

It's thoroughly terrible, through and through. Doesn't represent the BDSM scene right, doesn't present the D/s scene right. Exhibits behavior that is just flat-out abusive and portrays it as somehow glamorous and romantic...ugh.

Then again, I will admit anything that draws the United States out of its puritanical funk of outmoded sexual stigma can't be entirely terrible.

But it's really the one glimmer of good out of that steaming pile of sick dog leavings.

The movie commit the ultimate sin: Being boring. A movie that sells itself on sex ended up being nearly an hour on discussion about a contract. I've seen more sexy things on CSPAN.

So, Sparth has admitted to two horrible things today:

1) He has watched 50 Shades of Grey

2) He has watched CSPAN.

What's next? He's really into Trump porn?

Of course I did. That movie was so hyped I had to see what it was about and what was getting every soccer mom in the country moist under the hood.

Then it turns out to be worse than late night Skinimax. Like wow America, really? It didn't help the leads weren't that hot. Because no one wanted to sink their career in such amateur softcore.

2. Watching CSPAN was part of my training at the secret bunker where the government tortured me into becoming a Democratic shill. We were exposed to various techniques and taught not to crack. CSPAN was one such test. I saw many a man call out for his mother.

And from everything I've heard, the movie improves upon the book. At least the contract thing means it's got more consent?

I dunno. I've read a lot of analysis of the book and thereby significant swathes/quotes from the book, and it's just...dirty. Not sexy dirty. Bugs crawling over your skin while you're buried alive dirty.

Yet still, I get the allure of the book to many women, especially the poor ones. Being the sexual plaything of a rich sociopath would be a step up for many of them.

I haven't read the books cover to cover but they really try to get you to sympathize with Christian. Like really spend time selling this guy needs a ray of sunshine in his otherwise empty life. Enter our Mary Sue protagonist. I mean, the shots of Christian in his home might as well involve a small storm cloud raining on him.

Otherwise, the whole contractual arc of the story comes off as so artificial and to shore up the abusive nature of the relationship as to almost seem like parody. Yes, I'm an abuse *** but I won't torture until you consent to the abuses. Awww, such a nice guy.

It's a movie that's as old fashioned as it wants to be progressive and sex positive. At least James Bond just punched women in the face because he was a jerk. None of this contract crap.

Nah, I just like good cinema. And bad cinema. And cinema that makes you scratch your head and wonder how these things get funded. How much blow was involved.

Watch some Lifetime sometime and see how silly things get. Quality entertainment.

Worst thing about that book / movie to me personally was that I had retired from making BDSM gear before it / they came out.

Best thing was I had enough writer friends and friends in the BDSM community (yes there is a bit of overlap) that I didn't have to read / watch to know how lousy it was.

How's this for random?

Romanian election pits three men with same name against each other

Vasile Cepoi takes on Vasile Cepoi, Vasile Cepoi and someone whose name isn’t Vasile Cepoi.

Politico

Quote:
Voters in the village of Drăguşeni, in northeast Romania, can choose from four candidates in this weekend’s mayoral election. Three of whom are called Vasile Cepoi.

One of the Cepois, a member of former prime minister’s Victor Ponta’s Social Democrat Party (PSD), is running for a fourth term as mayor of the village of 2,500 people, the Associated Press reported Friday.

The three Cepois are not related, Viorel Munteanu, a town hall official, was quoted as saying. The first name is common in the country of 19 million, and Cepoi is a popular family name in the region.

But political scientists said this could be a tactic by rival parties to split the vote of the strongest candidate, according to Romanian news channel Digi24.

“I am young, I’m not going to be confused, but there will be problems with older people,” a man from Drăguşeni told Digi24.

There is a similar issue in another village in the same county. The mayor of Zamostea, Vasile Haliuc, a Social Democrat, is running against Vasile Haliuc, a relative who is a member of the rival National Liberal Party.

“We also ran in 2012 together; the citizens know us, they know how to make the difference,” PSD’s Haliuc told Digi24.

Sunday’s local elections are the first since Ponta’s government collapsed last November amid anti-corruption protests. Many candidates in the current race have been accused of corruption or even jailed.

Fox goes PC!!!

Fox apologizes for 'X-Men: Apocalypse' ads showing Jennifer Lawrence being strangled

Quote:
New York (CNN)20th Century Fox is apologizing for an "X-Men: Apocalypse" promotional image showing Jennifer Lawrence's character Mystique being strangled by villain Apocalypse.
The grim image was plastered on roadside billboards, posters and is featured in the movie's trailer.
Social media has been smoldering over the ads showing such violence to a woman.

The film studio responded to the backlash by saying that they were removing the image from promotional materials.
"In our enthusiasm to show the villainy of the character Apocalypse we didn't immediately recognize the upsetting connotation of this image in print form," Fox said in a statement. "Once we realized how insensitive it was, we quickly took steps to remove those materials. We apologize for our actions and would never condone violence against women."

People took to Twitter to express their outrage over the seemingly sexist image.

One Twitter user wrote: "The appeal of the X-Men poster showing Jennifer Lawrence being choked is that battery can be fun?"

Another user wrote: "Is anyone else bothered by the fact that one of the most prominent advertisements for X-Men: Apocalypse is Jennifer Lawrence being choked?"

This doesn't seem to be affecting the success of Fox's popular franchise, however.

"Apocalypse" opened at the top spot at the North American box office last weekend and has so far grossed over $285 million worldwide.
Waitafricking minuet. Its a comic book superhero movie. They are supposed to be violent. And seeing as how some superheros and supervillains are women they had darn well show violence by and against women.

Or am I missing something here?
