Under the best scenario the Government is mediocre, usually it's terrible at everything it does. The less we have under Government control the better.

This point I agree with wholeheartedly. The fact is no matter where you fall on the economic spectrum from complete government control to a complete lack of government at all, the supporters of any system can always argue "but we've never had a PURE <fill in system> to truly see how it would work!" Socialists can successfully say that, communists can accurately claim this, capitalists can even say it.

But while that is very true- we don't need a "clean" system to see the pros and cons of them. And the hard truth to me is that no matter what system you're in, there are gonna be things that work, and things that fail. The real question becomes what are you ok with being substandard, and what is most important to you in regards to those choices of systems.

You know, I laugh at every time people compare Walmart's business practices to Amazon's.

They are two completely different business models. And it stems mainly because they lack understanding on what Walmart truly sells.

You cannot compare them because they are two completely different business models.

I have yet to hear any educated capitalist say that they want a "pure capitalistic society."

Mainly because we know and understand the inherent flaws of true capitalism (it's in our history for crying out loud!), and know it's better to have some level of governmental control. The amount and degree of what is acceptable governmental control is what most of us disagree with, but nobody would argue that we would be better in a pure capitalist society. Well, nobody but anarchists that is.

I've never argued for a "pure" system, there are societal functions that require government control, even if it's inefficient and prone to corruption. Part of the social contract is us accepting some level of government control as a necessary evil. My position has always been that unless government control is absolutely necessary, it should be left to the free market.

didn't post that to say you were arguing for such a thing, merely that arguments over economic systems are doomed from the start, because the "loser" of such arguments always have that trump card in their back pocket. I was merely trying to point out that the argument is flawed, and it doesn't take a pure system to criticize or compliment it.

"grey area" non-pure "mixed" etc is always my go-to

It's why I say "our version of capitalism" (or imply it, I don't always type it)

@Saevel nailed it in my book. As little government intrusion as is needed, because the Aristocracy of Pull ends up twisting those "government regulations" to their advantage, and the disadvantage of competition.

Bonus points and lifelong friendship to those who caught the Rand reference.
