Taking videos of yourself and posting them on the internet for form checks are common when you're trying to learn a new lift. That's why the bar in his video is empty. Even I've asked for a form check in my earlier days and got a good amount of positive feedback because I posted those videos on a site that isn't full of ***.

Apes' only mistake is that he overestimated how friendly this site really is. That, and posting it on the wrong sub board.

Threads like this have always existed here and the rate of them popping up is greatly reduced over the years, not increased.

The best place to ask for a form check is in the gym, with other people who train regularly and have a good fitness lifestyle, not a video game forum (bodybuilding.com works also). After all, how could you be certain the people you're sharing the video with even lift (do you even lift...)? Sharing it on the FFXI forum, a place not known for lifters is interesting. You might think he was just doing a simple critique video, but it's low key ego stroking. Dead giveaway was the title of the thread and his avatar. Don't be so quick to defend him, he knew what he was doing.

You see this a lot with guys in their 20s who start going to the gym and begin to see an ounce of progress. They can't help themselves and HAVE to tell someone "I'm in the gym now!!!". I went through this same phase, posting progress pics/lift videos looking for validation. It's very common. It's good to be prideful to an extent, and it's a good lifestyle to be a part of. Just don't think people won't see right through it..
