Do job points for magic burst stack with the gear 50% magic burst bonus cap for a possible total of 70% or do they simply replace it?
The gear cap is actually 40%. Amalric hands and mujin band are cap-breaking. Gifts and JP are not counted against the gear cap.

If a piece of gear says Magic Burst Damage +10, is that 10%? I see that the gear augments usually show the % next to the modifier. Just curious if these were a percentage or something else. Thanks

I have a quick MB question.... Do we know what the cap is for Magic Burst Damage II?
If there is one, it's not reachable with current gear.

Another question about Magic bursts...
Do the ancient magic II merits count towards the magic burst bonus? If its 10MBB then does that mean you can technically use 30/40 MBB and exclusively use AMII spells for bursting? That frees up some space for other equipment. Is the MBB 40+/40 overspill and wasted? Or does it all count towards the final numbers? Also MBB II, does it only activate once you are 40/40? Or does it not work if say you are at 35/40 for MBB 1 Kasumuni88 said: » Another question about Magic bursts... Do the ancient magic II merits count towards the magic burst bonus? Anything over 40 is wasted. MBBII counts at any time Bismarck.Snprphnx said: » AM2 MBB counts towards the MBB1 trait. Example listed on BG-WIKI:
Quote: Example Calculation 3: Freeze II magic burst The following example is damage calculation for the spell Freeze II magic bursted on one target after a 2-step skillchain. Assumed caster statistics are: BLM Level 99 (Magic Burst Bonus +13% from job trait) Magic Burst Bonus gear (+10%) Magic Damage +191 (e.g. Atinian Staff) Magic Attack Bonus +125 Ice magic potency (BLM merits x3) +6 MAB Fully merited Freeze II (MB damage +12%) INT: 210 Assumed target statistics are: Magic Defense Bonus +25 Magic Damage Taken -12.5% INT: 90 dINT = 210-90 = 120 The terms in order (ignoring terms which are 1.0 for this calculation): D: 191 + 900 + (20 * 2.0) = 1131 Magic Burst: 1.3 for 2-stage SC | 1131 * 1.3 = 1470 (floored) Magic Burst Bonus: 1.35 (13% trait, 10% gear, 12% Freeze II merits) | 1470 * 1.35 = 1984 MAB/MDB: 131 caster MAB, 25 target MDB = (100+131)/(100+25) = 1.848 multiplier | 1984 * 1.848 = 3666 (floored) TMDA (MDT): 12.5% damage reduction = 0.875 multiplier | 3666 * 0.875 = 3207 (floored) Final damage: 3207 unresisted, with possible resisted damage of 1603, 801, or 400. As for MBBII, your MBBI does NOT need to be capped at +40 for it to work. Offline

Using your BG example, 13% from trait, 12% from AMII. All you need is 15% MBB from gear to fully cap... and anything above is overspill? This will free up some gear options available.
What I don't understand is why gear guides aim for 40% cap purely through armour alone and don't consider traits or merits. There isn't enough testing on AMII to exclusively burst using those spells. It's a lower MP cost, faster casting time than their AM1 and lower resistance to opposing element. Tier 5 and 6 spells are through job points with higher mp and longer casting time.. Would bursting from those yield higher numbers? Or 2 bursts or AMII within the window... Food for thought Kasumuni88 said: » What I don't understand is why gear guides aim for 40% cap purely through armour alone and don't consider traits or merits. Because the job trait MB Bonus isn't subject to the cap. The AM merits, yes, but element-depending, those generally fall somewhere between a tier 4 and tier 5 spell (though at some select dINT levels, they can be stronger than a tier 5). If you're magic haste capped (which you ideally would be for anything challenging), your cooldowns are low enough to never need to go past the tier 5, tier 6, and -ja spells, unless the skillchains are really flowing. That plus magic bursting has fallen out of meta favor, so in general there's not as much incentive to min/max an AM2 set. Ongo is a recent exception to this, where Quake 2 gets use. |
