this site being in co-operation with SE yet still promotes RMT sites that if used are a direct terms of service violation resulting in a perma ban.

so why are these conflict of interest on here? is this trolling for more people to ban when the player base is already shrinking?

Forum » FFXIVPro.com » Help » RMT advertisements on FFXIAH

In FFXIV you don't need gil.... and if you do actually need some, it's SO easy to make.

I still wonder why FFXIV has RMT characters at cedarwood, I guess they hope in 2.0 ppl will buy the hordes of gil they must be sitting on.

GL with that FFXI thing I hear Port Jeuno is very engaging these days.... mind you Ul'Dah is much of the same.

But at least we have been starved of ***for a reason, not a PS2 holding us back. Once 2.0 drops, they can shift from "Oh ***need a new engine/server set" to finally looking ahead of 2.0 for new content.

P.S HAHA You have Tanaka!~

They don't pick the ads, Google does. FFXIAH has absolutely no choice in the ads that are generated.

Ever notice how when a certain recurring word or theme is brought up in a thread on this forum, that it somehow magically brings up ads that are somehow relevant?

I know there are sites out there that sell FFXIV gil.. but I have a hard time believing anyone buys it. With the amount of suspect activity by bots out in Ceaderwood you would think there would be billions and billions of gil being injected into the market now.. but it just isn't. Prices are low and Gil is easy to make.

If they are RMT they are wasting their time. They would make much more actual money on WoW. Nobody is going to pay $50 USD to get 4m on XIV, if they do they are stupid.. you can make that in a weekend.

Advancement on XIV isn't based on money and I doubt it ever will be.

again...google ads uses a filter that pulls whatever we are currently talking about and puts it on the ads....not of what you look at here. if we start talking about pizza, ads of pizza will show up..
no need for the namecalling

Sry, but you're wrong. It definitely goes by your surfing history, at least the ads on here do.

This is wrong, ever site can pick the ads they want. all i think the admin would need to do is put in a request with google to remove the ad take a screen shot and send it to Scragg.

Tanaka quit, and the ps2 isn't holding any game back, research: do you need it?

Tell that to Scragg who I specifically remember telling people there is no code at his end that can change the ads that pop up when this topic came up a while back.

on his end there isn't, but you can block all ads, and I think you can tweak adblock to allow some even to let some through (site runs mostly on ads).

Couple things here. 1.) It isn't necessarily Google, ad's are determined by your cookies, when you visit a site, some sites leave an additional cookie in your system, these are ad cookies. They'll show up on multiple sites, not just xiah or xivpro.

2.)Lakshmi.Thundar pretty much cleared it up. Ad cookies ARE based on what you have either looked at online, or searched for with a search engine, but not always. Sometimes it can be associated words, hence programs like Google Adwords where a person could type something in that may be associated with the ad in question. In turn, the ad shows up, even though it isn't quite what the person was looking for.

Overall, for anyone who has a problem like this (XI or XIV), just clearing out your cookies and browser cache should resolve the issue. Most cookies expire (on average) between 15-30 days of visiting a site or searching for something that would prompt to show you the ad on a search engine.

I know this was all pretty much said less descriptively, but sometimes people like to know a little more, so hopefully this clears up any other questions =)

Makes perfect sense. Just before lurking here for a few minutes, I was checking out my fantasy football/baseball leagues. I'll give you a hint at what ad i'm seeing is on this very page right now.

: groan :

Let me try and clear some of this up for ppl..

Web tracking techniques and thus targeted advertising are much more sophisticated than just having a stored cookie. So in most cases clearing them will do virtually nothing to remove your online ad profile.

Any site that has a Facebook badge or like button on them (so basically every site now days) links your personal Facebook page to any other ad tracking methods on that site. For example you clear you cookies out, then log into Facebook then you visit The WSJ.com site.. Facebook and WSJ now know who you are, and what story your reading online.. even though you deleted your cookies.. and not only them also any other 3rd party service that WSJ.com uses, such as Google via doubleclick (as google own them).

It's not just Facebook either.. any Google service such as Gmail or YouTube, and Twitter all do the same thing. If it's free and on the web YOU are the product being sold to advertisers.

If your interested how this works check out Collusion from Mozilla. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/collusion/

Cookies are not the only way this is done, there are also Flash based profiles, so if you allow flash, any advertiser can track you via your flash objects (called LSO tracking).

Ad's are targeted by interests so an interest in FFXIV by searching FFXIV on Google or visiting sites related to FFXIV such as FFXIVPro will generate a targeted profile. When marketing a product such as FFXIV Gil, the person buying the ad can target it to those individuals who have an interest in FFXIV.

In other words you don't have to visit a gil buying site to get gil buying ad's. All you have to do is meet the targeting profile that the advertiser selected to show the ad to.. such as people interested in Video Games in general, FFXI or FFXIV depending on how targeted they wanted to make it.
