You know who I feel really horrible for??? Newly graduated under-grads. Things went bust when I graduated in 2008. I can't imagine what it's like for them now. I'm convinced that the only reason I found my job so easily and have maintained my job is because I went to school with the president's son. Who you know...That's all it's about right now. Merit has been totally sacked.
You have any pictures with him?

President of the company. Not Obama! LOL!
Thought you meant Bush, lol.

Now, when would I ever meet Bush, and why would I want to? I guess I can stake out Highland Park in Dallas if need be, or just get seats behind home plate at a Rangers game, but I like being with the drunk rowdies between second and third. Now that is entertainment!!!

That's kind of cool. I imagine he couldn't be all that bad one-on-one, but that goober just made us a laughing stock!

Hmmm...Did not know this, but Jenna and Barbara were Kappa Alpha Thetas and they went to Hockaday. I bet they're uber snotty! I had a trustafarian acquaintance who attended Hockaday during HS. She had a nose-job at age fifteen. That girl was...Errr...Ummm...Interesting?

Getting so off-topic now, but yeah she reminds me of this...

He came to our school I think my junior year since we consistently were on the exemplary list of schools for math and science. Funny seeing that guy in his boots and suit in an AP Bio and AP Anatomy and Physiology classroom, seeing as though he's done his best to get creationism in classrooms.

The government has the American military on their side,...
It really doesn't.

No? :o That's somewhat encouraging. I doubt there would ever be another civil war, but if there was, do you think the people would have the support of the military?

I recall when things went south in Libya, the military forces therein were greatly divided between the cause of the fascist leader and the protests of the people. Slowly they gave into the cries of the people at large, but not until extreme sacrifices were made, and innocent blood was shed.
I simply hope it never comes down to violence, but rather a looming and tangible reminder that the people are in power by mass, both by vote and by what both politicians and corporations worship most: consumerism. We hold that power in our hands, and if organized and resolute in a fundamental cause, we can have them down to a pathetic whimper and a crawl.

/facepalm

One of my buddies worked for Texas Commission of Agricultural Safety after law-school. He said that environmental law in TX is such a cluster-***. A cow shits in a river and it could kill some bacteria, so environmentalist took arms, and dismissed the fact that rural ranchers don't make a lot of money and need money themselves. Needless to say, he's an ambulance chaser now.

Nice going to the Guadalupe with him. If someone gets rowdy and is stopped by a cop, he paddles his *** over to the bank with, "Hi! I'm this man/woman's legal council! Is there a problem, officer?" We affectionately call him "The River Lawyer" and "Oasis's Attorney". That's another fun one! We were downtown, and some guid-neck started ***with one of my guy friends. I don't remember the details of everything that went on, but he busted out with, "Have you ever heard of a little band called Oasis? Yeah...I represent them." Love that goofball!

By 2020 say goodbye to the "free" internet.

The only way to avoid this would be to strike a blow that encases our legislators in fear of us as people. United we stand, divided we fall. A democracy is led by its people, not by an elected few that work above the law.

EDIT: Should the need arise, I would gladly take on the roll of V.
I'm already ready for this, the time is closing in and these bills show it clearly. I'm getting sick of having to contact senators/ect over stupid bills like these when these bills should be a no brainier to shoot down. They really don't A. do their job at all. or B. don't care about anyone but themselves . . .

He did briefly mentioned something about stopping counterfeiting in his speech on Tuesday. Although all the searches so far aren't from what I would consider legit sources, it does seem plausible.

There is somewhat good news to report on ACTA.

Quote:
Because ACTA deals in part with criminal law, the application of which is entirely up to national governments, it qualifies in the EU as a 'mixed agreement'. This is why it was signed in January by a European Commission representative as well as by ambassadors from EU member states, including Poland and the UK.

The rules around mixed agreements say the legislatures of every EU member state, as well as the European Parliament, all have to provide ratification. The European Commission confirmed to ZDNet UK that if just one member state does not ratify ACTA, the deal will not enter into force anywhere within the EU.

As yet, none of ACTA's 31 signatories has ratified it, and seven countries, including EU member states Cyprus, Estonia, Germany, the Netherlands and Slovakia, have so far declined to sign the document at all.

And finally: Shoe on the other foot: RIAA wants to scrap anti-piracy OPEN Act

Quote:
The Recording Industry Association of America found itself in an unusual position this week: opposing an anti-piracy bill that's gaining momentum in Congress.

"The OPEN Act does nothing" to stop online infringement and "may even make the problem worse," the industry group says in a statement it is circulating on Capitol Hill this week. "It does not establish a workable framework, standards, or remedies. It is not supported by those it purports to protect."

what's the OPEN act?

if it makes pirating harder to crack down on, let them pass that.

That's all fine and dandy in theory, but the United States is actually not a true democracy. It is a democratic republic in which the people elect officials to govern. Congress answers to big business and the lobbyists with the deepest pocket.

Try not to be naive about it, because money rules the world and these changes to the internet as we know it are inevitable. I hate it, but I know there isn't much to be done about it.

occupy D.C.?

get rid of Congress

change how officials are elected

make lobbying/sanctioned bribes illegal

elect NEW officials

edit: I'm all for a ruling class, because the masses are idiots however I disagree with who benefits in the current ruling class.
