Casted it on a level ~15 crab in the dunes as level 91 BLU with 420+ magic skill.

1/3 landed. That is horrible.

I would rather see SE lock the spell so you can only use it under Azure Lore and boost its m.acc at least over 50%

The spell costs ~247 MP. By the time you used that MP for an "attempt" at doom, you might as well have casted several better spells (like quad continuum) and killed the mob anyways. In the case of regular mobs they die in less that 90 seconds anyways. In the case of NMs, I bet most are immune to Mortal Ray.

Yea..it's sad. In the case that you do land it a few things might happen. Either it wears off or it stays on and you get to wait a whole minute for it to kick in and kill the mob!!

It would be stupid if you could land doom on an NM.

Some spells are added just for fun and giggles. Can't actually expect every spell to have a use. See [Maiden's Virelai]

It's moreso a spell for crowd control anyways.

Assume you have a ton of links and you sleepga them all and you need to defeat them all (for example gears in Salvage, or mobs in Dynamis, etc) Cast Ray on a mob, then go to town on the others. Suddenly, extra slept mob auto dies just in case you didn't get to it yet.

That's the only application I see for it at the moment. That and normal mobs with obscene HP levels.

And until we find out what it pairs with for job abilities, I'm saying I would rather not have it clutter up my spell list since it's completely useless.

Oh god, the JP were doing it right all along!

My inner OCD won't let me just not get a spell if I can get it.

I find it hilarious that anyone thought this spell wouldn't be completely ineffectual.

Maybe Mortal Ray is intended to be a Ballista spell. :p Or for use on your friends when they are charmed. ^_-

I hope it works well in ballista. Would be pretty funny. Mortal Ray > run away. The funny part is in ballista even ***with really low magic acc sticks very well, so I won't be surprised if it actually does proc ok. (I stick blind ninjitsu easily as 90thf/45nin)

Doesn't it wear off if they get too far away? Be pretty useless.

Typical to Final Fantasy games any form of Death/Doom is resisted by most monsters or the chance of it procing is extreamly low (so low that we omit these spells) Only effective Death Spell was in FFXIII against Neochu Marbol which the Proc rate is like 1% but the monster is very difficult to kill normally

I haven't tested it myself but those on the test server posted something about this. I can't personally confirm.

In most FFs there's at least one boss that can die in a cheap instant way.

Look at soulcage from FFIX.

Eh I see it as a toy spell like Maiden virelai lol, it has uses like people have said though. High HP/DEF adds or multiple adds, the range is stupid though you can't run far at all.

There was a death spell in Legend of Dragoon too that worked on all normal mobs but never NMs. (Rose would lock the enemy in another dimension and crush the dimension lol if anyone remembers) Even just that accurate would be nice

give it a horribly long retimer so people don't abuse it when farming but still

Does this surprise you? It's a spell that's to be used only for shits and giggles, if you thought it would be any more than that I dunno what to tell you. :/

Also for traits, please refer to this post. Contains all of the info about the new spells.

You mean X-Zone. That's been in FF since at least VI.

Also, adding Degenerator to the list of effective instant kill. Death in XIII could kill everything couldn't it? Including the last boss's last form.

Thanks you much for that link! Very helpful.

Although I have to admit I'm disappointed we don't get a treasure hunter trait yet.

No I'm sure he meant LoD. Thats what he was describing. Its one of Rose's abilities.

Or White Wind on Gi Nattak if you're awesome.

Vanish -> X-Zone or Doom would kill anything in FF6 as well.

Selphie's "The End" will kill anyone and everything in FF8 as well.
