this article is false. I can run all the way from Sandy to Valcrum Dunes with stopping only to zone.

In all seriousness, I personally need to stop playing on the computer so much and start getting fit. Time to break out the weights and put away crisps and mars bars Asura.Rule said: Kujata.Akeda said: Gamers have sex!? Wha!?!? yes and this is excluding hands, both left and right Have to swap 'em up! I try to do a nonstop weight workout for an hour mon-thurs. I don't always keep to the plan though so I'm not in as good as shape as I should be, but it still keeps me in shape. I used to run 7miles+ a day in the military but I stopped running since I got out because well I just totally despise it lol..... yeah I need to start running again :/
Anyways, it is pretty easy to live the gaming life and still stay in shape. Always use the stairs. It's faster alot of the times anyways lol
Shiva.Xet said: Asura.Rule said: Phoenix.Valefar said: Unicorn.Roxanna said: LOL I couldn't run for ***before I started gaming, guess what, I can now >.> Ugh, I am rather tired of people writing articles saying gaming is the devil. But in reality, gaming doesn't contribute to anything worthwhile, especially when you could be doing something more productive with your spare time. In the scope of things that could be done in life, there are far more unproductive activities that could be done other than gaming. Although i may just be saying that to make myself feel better about playing this game for the last 6 years I say do what makes you happy as long as it isn't detrimental to others to a degree. If you wanna game then game. Wanna go out for a drink then go for it. Just don't complain as it was your decision. I would say the same, except do what makes you happy, as long as it isn't detrimental to yourself. lol Ifrit.Bloodbathboy

In defense of gaming, most entertainment doesn't contribute to anything worthwhile. You could argue that playing MMO's for 8 hours a day is "healthier" than sitting in front of a TV for 8 hours a day, like some people do. According to this study, at least you get the fighter pilot reflexes out of it! Personally, I find most team sports pretty contrived and ridiculous. I once found myself explaining the ground-rule double and the tag-up in baseball to a non-American friend and realized half-way through "...wow, this really is kind of stupid, isn't it." However, the thing that gets me is... the argument only works if games are still entertainment for you. I know a lot of people, especially at the high-end raid level in MMO's, who have severely blurred the line between entertainment and work. A lot of them very loudly *** that they're not having fun, that camping is lame, that waiting for pops is excruciating, that drama is annoying, etc. Honestly, they seem to spend 95% of their online time angry. You ask, "well why do you do it, if it's not fun?" and they say "Well getting the item at the end is fun." How is that any different than putting up with *** at work for 40 hours a week to get a paycheck? Just, you know, without the paycheck?" Yeah, I personally feel like I'm at that invisible borderline, where it's work (which will definitely become even more work by the end of the year, with all these new additions to the game- primarily the level cap increase) and fun only when I forget about what's about to come in a few weeks. I didn't feel like this before as much, but my last relationship taught me a lot about allocating time, and with that came the realization that an online mmorpg can't offer you much in the realm of life, not even relief when things take time to do, and proper planning; I guess it also comes with wanting to be a more casual gamer though. I find it funny that they say it's because they sit in front of computers for 10 hours a day. What about those social network dweebs who spend the entirety of their free time twittering their facebooks or w/e. Then there's that huge chunk of the population that WORKS sitting behind a computer for 8+ hours a day.
Besides, the majority of gamers don't play games for 10 hours a day. Most of them don't even have that much free time. It's merely the hardcore ones who do, and that's because they have nothing important to do with their time to begin with. If they weren't able to play games the same people would probably be sitting there watching tv for that 10+ hours of their daily routine. It's not gamers themselves, its a segment of the population who are lazy in general and just decided games would be a fun thing to do in the time they'd otherwise be spending on the couch. I spent the last 4-5 years dancing Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Middle Eastern dance for my University. I had to quit last semester because my knees were starting to go bad. (The dance department also annoyed me beyond all reconciliation, but that's beside the point.) Since I've stopped dancing, I've been playing FF more (it's the only game I really play) and I have noticed myself getting less healthy. I used to walk to school (~15-20 minutes both ways) and walk all around campus without ever breaking a sweat, but since quitting dance I do get sweaty just walking that short distance. I also have a harder time lifting normal things and taking lids off my own pickle jars and such.
It's not FF making me weaker, though. It's that I haven't gotten off my butt and moved around regularly since stopping dance. I desperately need a new exercising hobby! Running is painful on my knees; I've had doctors tell me it's because I am too petite, there isn't enough room to absorb shock before the pounding gets to my knees. I somehow doubt that, I see shorter people than me running or jogging all the time. I love to swim, but the University pool is mostly reserved for the diving team and water polo team. We have a gym, it's a bit boring to go there, but it's definitely better than not working out at all. Anyways, tl;dr: I'm going downhill but it's not FF's fault. It's my own fault. I walk for a little more than an hour a day either early in the morning or late at night. Walking is a good exercise just got to get yourself motivated to actually do it.
