What Boniant says true though. So is Malekith. Why main it when you can macro it in and wear something better most times?

PLEASE paladins don't wear this as a main earring. Just macro it in for cures and wear something better (perhaps an HP+ earring).

It annoys me to see PLD's wearing this full time, because it should only be macroed in for cures.

Since not many earrings give defense, much less +3, this earring is fine to full time at low lvls. A HP earring probably won't be as helpful as that 3def.
