Okay this is a bit of a nood question but i dont really understand it i know i can get fishing to 100 then once i get another craft to 60 i get 40points to put into any other craft for say if i take goldsmithing to 100 and smithing to 60 does that mean i can use those 40 points putting them into smithing so its also 100 or would it just do nothing?

If you had Goldsmithing 100 and Smithing 60, every skill up you put into Smithing past 60 would reduce Goldsmithing by the same amount.

You chose. You could do smithing instead. However if you try to lvl it after I believe it delvls your other craft. Also if you look at your crafts even if you have another one above 60 it will only show the guild you currently chose and fishing above 60

You get 40 master points period (Fishing is the exception of course).
So you can have 100 (60+40) Goldsmithing, and 60 every other craft,
or 80(60+20)Gold 80(60+20)Smithing,
or 90(60+30) gold 70(60+10) smithing etc...

If you want to have 100 gold and 100 smithing you need to do one on a mule.

Prior to deleveling another craft after you have 100 / 60, you would have to turn in the test item to go from 60 to 70. Just crafting say a level 65 item when you are level 60 while having a level 100 craft would in no chance reduce your 100 by any. Make sense? If you were happy with your level 100 craft, then you would never turn in the test item beyond journymen. Like the above says, this does not apply to fishing.

I have woodworking at 100 and every other craft "capped" at level 60 with the exception of fishing which is now at 53!

Good luck =)

I wanted to do goldsmithing to 100, smithing to 60 and alchemy to 60. goldsmithing and smithing cause the cursed items for the koenig gear are goldsmithing and smithing + the koenig shield aswell (plan to level paladin)

Then that's doable. You shouldn't have any points taken away from the other crafts once Goldsmithing is 100 and the others don't go past 60.

Also HQ crafting am i reading this right.
once i have a craft up to level 50 i have a 50% chance of getting a HQ result or is it based on how many levels i am over that craft cap to what my HQ rate would be with that time?

It is based on the level difference between your level and the items level.

The general rule I hear is:

-15~10 level difference = 1% HQ
11~30 = 10% HQ
31~50 = 25~30% HQ
51+ = 50% HQ

Those are the numbers I hear about HQ rates, and they seem to be about right from what I've ever experienced.

Here's the easiest way to think about it...

Aside from fishing (and possibly synergy, since it's new, i dunno how it plays into things) you can only take any craft to level 60... Then in sort of merit fashion, you have an additional 40 points to work with to split up between the crafts however you like... You can choose to use those points so that your crafts are all balanced to how you see fit, you can choose to take one craft all the way to 100, or take 4 crafts to 70, 2 to 80 etc..

As for the HQ rates, those rates are based upon many many many many many synths... The more times you perform a synth, the closer it EDGES towards the commonly accepted HQ numbers (11-30 = 10%, 31-50 = 30%, etc)

Let's just assume you already have a craft to 100.. Now if you performed the same exact synth 1,000, even 10,000 times, you'd have a very good baseline for HQ rate.. Say you're 28 levels above the cap, statisticly speaking, over the course of 10,000 synths, you may notice that that you that you HQ about 300 of them... That doesn't mean just becuase you do 1,000 synths you will HQ 30 times.

I've taken so many crafts to 'mid-high levels' that I can't even tell you how many levels I've put into crafting over my FFXI career (this is NOT my first char), however I can tell you that crafting seems to have a mind of it's own.. It does what it wants, when it wants... I've went upwards of 0/30 HQ on a synth I'm 80 levels above, I've also HQ'd recipes a few times in a row of a synth that I'm using to skill up on.

If you're going to get into crafting, it's VERY important to realize, that even when you're of very high levels (90+) you still cannot rely on HQ-ing to make your gil (in otherwords, if you're currently doing a certain synth for money, make sure it's an item that sells well and at a profit for the NQ version, think of the HQ when it happens as a bonus)

just letting crafter's know when you hit 58-60 on a sub craft

i'm gonna give my example...I'm level 99 cooking and didn't want to lose that...

so when i leveled up woodcraft to 58... i handed the key item to the guild of woodwork thinking this would get me to the 60 cap.

HOWEVER it changed the woodwork craft to craftsman

This conflicted with my high level cooking..

< i was still getting skill ups on my woodwork when i reached 60 >

and i got 60.1.....

I panicked.... OH NO !!!!!!

so i went back to my cooking guild...

The cooking npc guildwoman asked me to choose to revoke the

new woodwork title and that she would do it on my behalf

I agreed and now in my crafting levels i have capped the woodworking to Journeyman 60 in blue...it is fixed there.

I didn't lose any levels of my woodworking bar the 0.1 increase

if you have any issue with another craft (other than your main) ...go to your main crafting guildmaster first.

Hope I've helped other crafter's..worried about losing their sub levels!!

If it's a sub your leveling don't go past 60.. and speak to your high level guild master

ice xx :)

I know this is a major necro bump but didn't want to make a whole new topic for this but it fits along the lines of this topic.

I'm wanting (when new caps hit of 110) to have both Cooking and Alc at 90. My question is, if i wanted the stalls and turned in the test item to make it Veteran and make the stall, of either one, when I choose to re-level the other would I then loose the Veteran status? Is it possible to delevel your crafting rank?

you dont just need to be Veteran rank to make the stalls. The synergy synth forces the person to be level 90 in the respective craft, even though you can buy the emblem at level 88. however I assume you could have someone else with the skill 90+ in your party when you make the stall, with you still lvl 88.

so i guess to do what you want to do, you would need to:

A.) level craft A to 90, get veteran, and make the Stall A

2.) level craft B to 90 (which would force craft A back down to 80), get veteran, and make Stall B

D.) level craft A back to level 85, forcing craft B to 85, having both stalls.

if you did this, i would also recommend taking the time and getting the Signboard and other furnishing at level 88 for both crafts. this would give you 2 crafts with 85+ 7-9 (+2 from armor, +4 or 5 from stall (exact value not determined), and the other 3 furnishing

I'm guessing the master points cap has now changed from 60 to 70 then? So you still have 40 master points but they are used post 70 rather than post 60?

Question for the OCD in me. Sorry for necro, but figured the response to my question would fit in this thread.

If I level a new craft, thus sacrificing my old one, does it recap with blue letters? Or will it stay white since its cap was previously broken?

Example: Cooking 110 -> 70 (White or Blue cap text?)
Woodworking 70 -> 110 (Blue cap text)

Probably the only person who would care, but I have pretty bad OCD and it would drive me nuts.

Thanks anyone who knows.

You uncapped cooking to 110, not woodworking. When the sub cap was raised to 70, you had to uncap everything from 60 to get them to 70.

The above part of rescinding and autodropping to 70 I didnt know about. I guess thats to re-lock it to 70 so theres no risk of getting a sub-craft skillup and pulling your 110 down to 109.9?

I leveled cooking to 110, then changed my mind and went to Clothcraft. My cooking is currently "not blue" and at expert (level 70) and my cloth is 110 "blue"
