The US is coming very close to the election of the next President. Will there be an effect to the game depending on who becomes elected? I fear that if Senator John McCain becomes elected, the economy worldwide will start to tumble more out of control then it already is. While some people already struggle to find the money needed to pay for there account, if the world has any more hardships, many people will be left to choose between necessity and entertainment. And though you may feel like there is no way this will effect us, imagine if all of a sudden just 10% of players stopped playing due to the lack of money they have... That in return will create less parties for us to join, less people to buy our crafted items, and no one to farm the base materials we count on in the AH.

So in an economy that is declining in-game already, lets do our part and Elect Obama, and make it better for the middle class people that play this game.

What is everyone else's views on this? I would love to hear some of them.

I'm sorry dude... but I find it really tough to believe that electing McCain will ruin FFXI, and that Obama is the final fantasy savant.

this is *** HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE

Pretty sure crap like this is why we dont have elected officials in FFXI. Leave it in the real world

I doubt that no matter who gets elected, FFXI will remain unchanged, or there will be so little impact on FFXI that it would be unmeasurable.

bringing politics into games is definitely something you aren't going to get a huge response from. talking about economy is that fine line that you can straddle, but politics...no.

not really meant to talk about politics or anything, just throwing in the idea that RL stuff affects this game more then people understand. This just happens to be the biggest outside factor that may play a part in a game struggling to keep players anyways. Players quit playing everyday because of the failed economy and lack of parties here. The rich continue to get richer and the poor stay poor.

For those that are interested in politics, check out this for more information:

Personally I thought Obama sucked in the last debate and really I'm not into giving the government more power than it already has like Obama wants. I don't like McCain but I'd take him over the puppet Obama seems to be. Hilary Clinton would have been better than either really I mean didn't she pretty much do all the work 8 years ago while Bill was getting Bjs. And to the issue of it having to any effect on FFXI that is pretty doubtful really, the amount of ppl that aren't going to afford $15 a month shouldn't really rise too much espc since gas seems to only be lowering.

exactly yakutatazu. 15$ isn't that much per month, in fact it's cheaper than cable, phone service ect ect.

this is why people hate politicians, religious groups, and any other type of people that like to shove things down other people's throats. seriously...everyone can see right through your attempts to sugar coat your opinion (which you can have all you want, just don't project it on others).

this feels like those lovely bashing commercials on TV. i cant wait till election season is over and all this crap is done till the next election.

Go suck it. You can keep your left wing agenda to yourself, your scare tactics won't work here. This forum shouldn't be your grandstand to kiss your candidate's ***. Keep it to yourself.. or at the very least: just bother the Alla~tards.

This is why you don't discuss politics with uneducated people(or people too lazy to do their own research). The OP was obviously fishing but your misinformation is no better and is worse in some ways.

Neither candidate will be harmful/helpful to FFXI directly but you might be interested in their votes on technology bills(as MMO players tend to be more "tech savvy").

The best thing you can do is do your own research and ignore the political ads completely.

PS: This is an Off Topic forum so the OP has every right to discuss whatever he wants here unless the mods say otherwise.

Just because he has the right to doesn't mean he's not a *** moron, or that he isn't looking for the thinnest strand possible to attempt to make a connotation with the election. (Hint: he is)

I'm afraid to even vote this time around. I've always been for voting and trying to get every one to but this time around it's hard to say. I'm in the military and far as I can see we're pretty screwed with either side. One is going to keep us fighting wars constantly to prove who has the bigger 'sword' and the other is going to rape the few resources we have left -- not to mention probably cut our paychecks and manpower like Clinton did to balance the budget he was so famous for. So yeah, I'm not voting ... I don't want to be blamed for either this time.

Socialist systems sound great but think about it -- how do they fund the "free health care for all" system? They have to pull money from somewhere in the budget.

We could just get rid of the overseas RMT jobs and make US RMT jobs ... help the econ.... bleh nvm , I'm voting for Nader, is he running?

I said he was fishing :P

@Bekisa: Obama's plan doesn't include "free health care for all".

Obama on Defense:

On energy I don't think either candidate is where they need to be or as aggressive as they need to be about it.

lol thats funny, i use that as a response when people ask me who i am voting for too. i mean statistically he has to win at some point! also, thank you for serving. i know you probably don't get that enough but your service, no matter who is in charge and what decisions are made, is still service. i wish people wouldn't bash soldiers and their families for following orders. it really breaks my heart to drive past the protesters around here, and my question to them is almost always did you serve? some people just don't get it. anyways be safe, drink water.

This is true, but this is where he looks stupid:

While i agree with obama on some aspects of his internet and technology policies, and laugh at mccain about his piracy stance, neither president will have that great of an effect on ffxi. as pointed out before 15$ isnt something someone is going to cry about. neither president will give us an economic stimulus package in the form of gil so really, it is HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE to insinuate such a thing will so greatly impact us as to vote a certain way.

i have no problem with people posting intelligent educated conversations about whatever the hell they want but seriously, the OP contradicts himself so much it is seriously just starting to become a flame war.

on a side note: i am glad younger people are interested in politics.
make educated decisions, read both the for and against views and form your own opinion on what is best!
don't form opinions purely on TV ads.

last but not least: please, please, please, punch those chads all the way through.

All i hear is "Ignorance, ignorance, ignorance" The man posed a question about ingame politics reflecting what is happening currently in the US and all your answers are typical internet "I won't ever see this guy so I'm gonna talk as much ***as I want" or irrelevant responses about your own political views thought up without proper research. To answer your question in my own opinion; neither president will change the ingame economy, completely different topics. If you want to know what will kill the ingame economy more, ban more gilsellers cause they are the only people smart enough NOT to undercut everything cause they lack the patience.

Funny because thats what I'm hearing from you. Read his post carefully again, and look at the spit he's making to try and get people to vote democratic.

It's not like the president of the United States has much power anyway aside from the power of veto. Who is president certainly won't affect ffxi, and it probably won't affect much of anything else either. The economy is already in a bind and as we've seen the economic bailout didn't do very much. Definitely vote for the candidate you identify with but don't expect them to work miracles, they don't have that much power.

You should really research everything the President can do because the last eight years, if nothing else, have been a clear example of what a President can do. A couple of the more important expressed powers:

-Appoint Supreme Court Judges
-Appoint Ambassadors

Those two things alone can change a whole lot in four years.

There's also the mess of inherent powers but I won't get into that.
