Suggestion for FFXI Laptop?
Looking to buy a laptop soon, something that i can dual box on and still surf internet at same time.
Any suggestions? INSPIRON 15Intel® Pentium® Dual Core T4300 (2.1GHz/800Mhz FSB/1MB cache)

Been playing on a 2.1ghz dual core with 4gb of ram for nearly 3 years now. Dual boxing (with 2nd char effects turned off and clipping plane at minimum) is not a problem.
Honestly you can't go wrong with any brand as long as you get a dual-core+ processor, 3 gb+ of RAM and at minimum 256mb shared video card (most laptops have shared video). Mine is an old Inspiron 15XX Have upgraded the Hard Drive to a 7200 RPM model though, saw massive increase in my FFXI performance from the original 4200 RPM drive it had, lol. Edit: What you have listed up there would work fine, of course others would suggest you upgrade to a Core2/AMD/i7/VIA processor or get another brand, etc, but in the end what you have listed will work just fine. I am now using Win7, only way to get windower to work with my x64 version is to have InternetExplorer running when I start windower. After the game is up and running (in full screen), I close IE. I'm on a dell studio 500 gig hdd, 4gigs of ram, lolvista, pentium dual-core.
It works pretty well for FFXI. Edit: I bought it at lolwalmart on sale before school started too. Offline

Phoenix.Sector said: Video Card Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD If possible, are there any other choices with the same similar price tags that has nvidia/ati graphic cards? Never had a problem with 3 laptops with Intel embedded video. Sure it isn't as great as a dedicated card, but with 4gigs of ram, you're going to get 1gig+ going to video while running two instances of FFXI. Works fine as far as I'm concerned.
I have an Asus, actually went all out on this guy, 2.53 dual core 6gb ram 2 gb reserved on video card, whic is an nvidia ntx260 I believe was the nomecleture on it. It is a beast, and was only 1100, but I mean, My last was a 2.2 dual core with 1gb reserved on the video crad with 4gb ram, ran 3 windows fine :)
I take that back here are the spec on mine:

I have an HP G60 and it plays FFXI pretty well. I did besieged a few times without much lag and that's about it. FFXI is almost 10 years old isn't it?? I can't imagine any laptop out today would have any problems running FFXI, unless you got a netbook or something really cheap.

u can get some good deals from allot of retail stores these days, almost any decent brand laptop that isnt "super cheap" will run ffxi on its highest settings. im surte shopping online might save u a lil more, but u can get a good laptop for like 500-600 that will last u and do what u need/want.

One of my LS mates just bought a laptop from Best buy for like $300. She said it runs XI very well. She 2 boxes her Husband's account on it. Let me check and see what one she got.
i use dell vostro 1500 on mine, standard stuff, they are fairly cheap too, i saw one on craigslist for 200$, and a few on ebay for just shy of under 300$ with no bids
pretty decent laptop, only time i have problems is during zergs for kirin or sarameya Leviathan.Antonioklaus said: One of my LS mates just bought a laptop from Best buy for like $300. I just want it so i can ffxi at work since its always dead and they have wireless internet(im the manager haha). I did go to bestbuy yesterday and saw a laptop for 550 on sale, it had a 2.4Ghz proccesser wasn't dual i believe tho. And 3MB of ram, 300GB of disc space. It looked good but im still shopping around before i make my final decisions. I'm curious as to what the $300 laptop was, too, as I really have no idea what to recommend to people anymore that ask for "something that plays XI" and it seems like whatever it is should be a really good baseline for specs.
The only manufactures that makes good laptops are Apple and lenovo .
Can't stand the site of those crappy Dell/HP notebooks. Also why would you wanna limit yourself to a laptop that can just run FFXI. I'm pretty sure you would want to play other games in the future, maybe encode encode video or w/e. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834146613 Only 1.6Ghz processer? And costs 1k?...

(assuming we won't have an explosion of hardware developments coming soon) Who knows with Intel, can't wait for the 32nm 6 core "Gulftown" line. AMD said they ware planning to update their architecture with hyperthreading and other features yet to be announced. |
