I don't think that Baconwraps' hypothetical ends justifies means.

I'll be honest, I expected a topic with Porn in the title to be more exciting.

Oh yes this compared to the person who thought it was mainly college girls? Most of the people in this thread don't know about Measure B, AIM, or the SFV or how the adult industry really functions. Yet I'm the one "not thinking." The people thusfar who've made an opinion dont know about how the adult film industry functions whatsoever and I'm the one who doesn't think. Woosh. (Again)

Considering Titan, Chi-Chi La Rue and Falcon were at one point based out of West Hollywood and SFV. Oh yes and quite a few of my friends are former actors for them. I do have a pretty good idea how it works and where exactly the "money" is coming from. Offline

So... can I still use my account from their bank to import porn?
All of the major banks have had this policy well before the recent recession. This isn't a Chase-only bank thing. Some of your regional and local banks have also adopted this stance (for the sake of image).
It's also the same reason why many large corporations have policies in place to pre-clear with the compliance department before making political contributions. The name of the company escapes me at the moment, but there was a CEO who recently stepped down (I think it's from Mozilla) because his public contributions to California Prop 8 (the anti-gay marriage bill) caused a major upheaval within his company when it was announced he would be the face of their company. You don't have to like it the policy , but I can respect why they choose to do it. ...Even if I disagree. Wherever porn goes, so does the market. IE. VHS vs Betamax & Blue-ray vs HD-DVD. So in a way this could suggest a future where big banks are being phased out. What are they going to replace it with? We shall see.
what's to prevent the inevitable porn-ception when they start denying payments to cell phone companies because people may use phones to look at porn, or refusing payments to stores that sell adult oriented products, like gas stations...
they're unbelievably bad at business if they think alienating people with tons of cash in favor of some kind of moral highground is a good idea. I'm sure their investors don't mind lower returns as long as people aren't allowed to buy condoms... According to NYSE right now Chase shares have only risen by $0.01.
I banked with them once, was horrible. Ended up canceling my account and moving to a different bank. Them and Wells Fargo were utter sh!t with customer support, they really didn't care about anyone that had less then a million USD with them.
Anyhow it's their own choice to be douches and refuse perfectly good money. But that brings me to another point, how on earth can a bank refuse to process payments from someone in the adult films industry but a bakery can't refuse to bake weddings cakes for a homosexuals? That scene in Iron Man with Jim Cramer saying, "This is a weapons manufacturer that doesn't make weapons!" (possibly paraphrased) comes to mind.
"This is a bank that doesn't like money!" Whatever. Strongly agree with the sentiment that any bank refusing to work with someone on moral groups is extremely laughable. Because bakeries don't have senators in their back pocket. I wonder how many of the employees, managers, etc of that bank look at porn weekly. And in case if they don't feel a little bit of hypocrisy inside.
And quoting this cause it should be on every page: Cerberus.Pleebo said: » Banks taking the moral high ground. That's worth quite a few lulz. Fenrir.Candlejack said: » Bahamut.Baconwrap said: » Chase Bank Is Shutting Down Porn Actors' Bank Accounts Quote: Reportedly, Chase Bank recently sent letters to hundreds of porn performers informing them that their accounts will be shut down by mid-May. This isn't the first time Chase has targeted those who work in the adult industry — and, sadly, I doubt it will be the last. According to Perez Hilton (I know, I'm sorry), hundreds of letters went out to members of the adult industry informing them, "We recently reviewed your account and determined that it will be closing on May 11, 2014." The letter goes on to apologize for the inconvenience and instruct the recipient to cancel all automatic deposits and withdrawals. Sex work is never specifically mentioned, but — as Kitty Stryker points out at The Frisky — Chase has a dubious history of discriminating against people in the adult industry (and even people who just do work that's related to sexuality). Last year, for instance, Chase refused to process payments for Lovability, a company that sells condoms and promotes female sexual empowerment, because condoms are "adult-oriented material" and thus a "reputational risk." After Lovability CEO Tiffany Gaines engaged in a high-profile protest against the company, the bank agreed to process Lovability's payments — but, notably, not to remove condoms from the "prohibited adult" category. Gaines responded to this decision on xoJane: Chase's ability to pass judgment calls on what we can buy and sell is a breach of everyone's rights... We cannot allow any large corporations like Chase bank to get away with governing our ability to take responsibility for our sexual health. A month after this, former softcore porn producer Marc L. Greenberg sued Chase for refusing to underwrite a loan for "moral reasons." Greenberg approached the bank for help refinancing one of his properties; although he had an annual income of $500,000 and a net worth of $10 million, his request was ignored for four months. Finally, a high-ranking official at the bank told him that his loan application had been refused due to "JPMorgan's disapproval of plaintiff's former source of income and occupation as an owner of a television production company that produced television programs that dealt with the subject of human sexuality." It doesn't matter if the money is legally earned: if it has anything to do with sex, Chase views it as sordid. That's what most of us are "lulz"ing about, yes. Banks taking a moral high ground is an absolute joke. Bismarck.Ramyrez said: » Lakshmi.Saevel said: » I banked with them once, was horrible.
